TCL for league play - car names not being exported properly?
Hello there,
First of all, many congrats to all the devs. for the massive and brilliant work. This mod looks awesome and, even though I myself didn't have a chance to race it yet, everyone who did has it in very hight standards.
I'm trying to help out setting the mod to use within a big league (race2play.com). However, the league "official" said the reason preventing them from doing it is that the "The mod does not score properly. It exports the car names out wrong which prevents Race2Play from being able to score a TCL event." (his words, I don't even know exactly what that means).
Would you have anything on that? We'd love to have it approved to be able to race with it!
Many thanks.

Re: TCL for league play - car names not being exported properly?
Hi luizsilivera
I haven't heard of any export problem with results. Not sure how there points system works but we have no issues with our or have I heard of any issues in the past. I can Only gather they want to export the cars in classes which not 100% but don't think they are grouped that way.
Sorry I don't have more to offer you not sure if anyone else is able to help here

Re: TCL for league play - car names not being exported properly?
The only problem is that the class names are divided into ATCC, Bathurst, etc. rather than Class 1/Class 2/Class 3.
There should be no worries so long as you ignore those. It would be ridiculous to avoid this mod because of that slight discrepancy.

Re: TCL for league play - car names not being exported properly?
Hey guys, thanks for the quick answer.
Yeah, apparently it is an issue - and one big enough to prevent the mod from being used there.
Among other things, this is what I got from them: "All cars in each class export out as the class name (ie: ATCC) not the car name (ie: BMW). On top of that, the different eras of cars (1988, 1989, etc) still export out as the full class name (ie: ATCC) and no way to differentiate between the eras."
I don't think the eras problem would be so big a deal (and that's me thinking, not them), but if indeed the car model is not being exported at all on results and only the class is... that could be a problem unfortunately.
I was also pointed to this post, about DisplayClassOverride: race2play.com/homepage/show_posts/10169
(not a full link because I'm not allowed to post external link yet).
It's a shame because it looks like such a brilliant mod.
Thanks again,

I notice that the folks on the thread you're discussing have summarily dismissed the mod based on one or two technical intricacies, which have no bearing whatsoever on the amazing modeling and physics.
Their loss.
Their loss.

Post of the day!
Who gives a flying #@%& about what names are exported in the class structure?
It's Group A Touring Cars, 800 of them, with excellent graphics and pretty accurate physics!!!

First luizsilveira none of the following paragraphs are direct at you at all only Tim McArthur from race 2 play
Love the comment from Race2play admin
Now, I am no modder of rFactor yet I know of this simple DisplayClassOverride function and how to use it.
I hate to say it, but when a modding group does not know of or use
this simple function then it speaks volumes to me on the quality of the
worksmanship. Kind of like a cabinet maker not using sand-paper or stain
and still passing the cabinet off as a finished product.
I hate to say too actually no I don't but every other points software I have used has no issue with the mod. I can easily create classes in SLS software No problems at all grouping whatever cars I want. It certainly speaks volumes to me on quality of race2plays workmanship that there software so un-flexiable that they couldn't make it work.

Their loss.
Well, it's my loss as well
But, yeah. However, I can see their point by the way their leagues and scoring is structured.
I have raced (and sometimes still do) in other smaller leagues where the scoring "system" is more informal and done manually to a great extent. Then I don't think this would be any issue whatsoever. But once the league has many dozens of races a week with many hundreds of drivers... things can get messy if the scoring is not proper.
Quite unfortunate indeed. But on the other hand it might also be unfortunate that a mod with amazing modeling and physics gets its functionality a bit hindered by one or two technical intricacies.
All in all, I think due to their size and range, and considering how interesting and unique the mod is, it seems to be a sim community loss.

Someone who need to organize dozens of races a week with a drivers pool in the tens of thousands probably does give a flying #@%&. That point exactly, 800 cars not exporting properly could (potentially) make a huge mess on a large scale scoring. I reckon it would be a non-issue for a group of 10 or 15 friends racing once a week kind of thing.

Well, yeah, they seem to be inflexible. And maybe they have their reasons to be so, maybe they don't. I don't know.
Fact is, I'm just trying to help here, as I'm pretty sure you are too. I'm trying to help myself, yes, because I want to race with this mod; but also helping other people there who want the same, and the overall community by making available what I think is good stuff to a broad chunk of the sim community.
Unfortunately I'm trying my best to be helpful but I don't have modding knowledge and the very last thing I'd like to get into is the middle of a mix of ego battle with technical discussion.
If there is indeed a way to "solve" whatever problem that is, I'd like to keep trying to help. I think you can feel free to post there as well, if you feel that would be worth it and helpful.
If there is not a way to solve it, well, then I can only lament. I couldn't even edit the mod myself, since they don't accept mods other than public releases by the modders. And they do so to protect the sim community as a whole (minimizing mismatches etc.), which I think is a fair point for their inflexibility in this regard.
Once again, thank you for your help.

Luizsilveira, don't worry, we aren't upset at you, it's good to find somebody else as passionate about these things as we are. Unfortunately, since the original modders have moved on, I don't think the changes you're looking for can be easily made. You could try PMing T-Man (on our forums), with your request - he's one of the original modders.

This mod is not worth missing out on Mate run a series away from race2play servers and run it in house. We can certainly offer you support with that

This can be corrected by changing the team names in the veh files e.g Team="1986 ATCC 635CSi"
change to Team="BMW 635CSi" or whatever you want to call it, secondly in the veh file you would need to change the classing's to what you want them to be, thirdly it helps to use displayclassoverride to the desired class name in your upgrade files, modifying these three aspects should solve the issues you are having, however having said that it's a big job for 800 something cars & everyone in the league will require the same veh files.

Re: TCL for league play - car names not being exported properly?
Many thanks for the help, guys.
Yeah, unfortunately they don't allow changes made to the mod. In other words, they never use a mod if not an official developer's release.
It seems it won't work but thanks for the effort and help.
I found another UK league to race those cars and I'm quite happy with it, too bad I couldn't "spread the love" a bit more.
If I manage to get any good at them I'd like to join you guys for a race or two if that's ok (on weekends the time difference gets manageable).
