H & TCL League Round 4 - Kyalami 1970 (20th July)
Kyalami 1970
The original, sweeping circuit was in use from 1961 until political sanctions eliminated the Grand Prix after the 1985 race.[1] When the circuit was rebuilt in the early 1990s as part of a commercial development, Leeukop Bend, the Kink, Pit lane and start finish straight, Crowthorne Corner, Barbeque Bend were all eliminated. Jukskei Sweep was heavily modified to create the entrance into the bend before the then newly built Pit lane and start finish straight. The remaining part of the old almost historical fast circuit, modified to a lesser degree were Sunset Bend, Clubhouse Bend and the Esses still incorporated into the current configuration, with the result that the circuit became a narrow, twisty ribbon rather than one of the fastest circuits on the calendar. Formula One abandoned the rebuilt circuit in 1993 after just two races and a bankruptcy on the part of the promoter. Kyalami was changed again with the building of the current Pit lane and start finish straight and later again changes were made, most recently the addition of the chicane which in turn was removed again for the 2009 World Superbike race.[2] Kyalami is currently under new management and 2008 saw 50th Anniversary of the 9 hour revival being held at Kyalami with golden oldies like David Piper and others.[3] On 6 June 2014, it was announced that Kyalami will be auctioned off on 24 July without reserve.[4

D/L and installed the track tonight, I really like it! Pretty happy with the set-up so far, after a dozen laps and managed a couple of 27s, i have no idea how quick that is...

Awesome turn out tonight guys
Great to see some of the old guys back having a run.
Had a good battle with Floydie is the first race, as he was right on the pace.
Some awesome battles with allot of you in the second race, especially GroupcAction
Not sure what happen to Floydie ? was supposed to start in 2nd ? must of missed the start ?
Well done to BillyBob for the win the second race, Top Drive !!

Re: H & TCL League Round 4 - Kyalami 1970 (20th July)
I was pretty happy with my night last night, as I had done exactly 0 laps practice before I logged on. At least I knew the circuit.
I had a reasonable setup from Longford, so tweaked that a little bit to suit.
Had a total shocker of a start on both occasions, Billy Bob was stationary in front of me in Race 1, then had to get on with it. Jake B. and I had a top race, great fun stuff.
In Race 2 I bogged down really badly off the start, and lost a fair bit of time on the opening lap. I knew the Commodore wouldn't be the best car, but I was pretty impressed with it really, ran VHard/Hard which might have been a bit conservative.
I was happy to finish only 27 seconds behind after 30 mins in R2, didn't make many mistakes, had a ripper race with Growler (again!) and YayStenny who was coming on gangbusters on the last lap in the Volvo.

Re: H & TCL League Round 4 - Kyalami 1970 (20th July)
I had a great night, glad to be back. Every start I had to dodge someone fast asleep in front of me. I had a couple of really good dices with Pyro, but slammed in to the back of him at Turn 1 in Race 1, oops sorry about that. In the second race I also had a good dice with Nuty for a couple of laps until he just drove away from me.
I felt sorry for Jono, alone in the little Corolla on such a big fast track, I've been there.

Great fun last night. The Skyline was very consistent here but a little long in the gearing so it was a dog to get going at the start (apologies to Chris) also locked the fronts and tagged Mozza then got in Grunters way on the rejoin...who graciously re-dressed even though it was more my fault than his... but managed to get back inside the top ten with the highlight of the evening was snatching 9th i think it was from growler by about a bumper lol.
Had some good battles and very happy with the win in race 2... a few more laps and corty would have closed the gap.
Also.. could someone from admin send me the ttr bank details so i can chuck some money in.

awesome racing last night. had some good starts in the sierra and had to go the long way round to get into 1st for race 2 which lasted only a few laps. the lack of top end speed hurt a lot. good fun dicing though and as long as i could slip stream i wouldn't lose out so much.

PM sent about donations.
I don't think I would have caught you Billy as my front left tyre were absolutely gone.
I pushed as hard as I could that last few laps, but couldn't get the gap down much at all.
Well done again !!

I was having a great time till my net connection dropped out! Was a great battle with CD in the first race but was struggling abit with a full tank in the second when i lost the connection. Starting to learn more about setting things up and getting a bit more confidence so hoping I get home early enough from work next sunday to jump in!

Here is some of the action from Race 2 on Sunday night.
It's a very amateur video as I'm no expert at video editing lol.
Here it is:
If anyone does have the know how to do videos of the races and would like to put them up, then go for it

You do have this knack of getting awesome starts in all the mods Growler!! I need to practice with the clutch a bit more that's for sure!
The poor little 3.5L V8 was running out of puff down the straights though.......

Years of practise getting the race car off the line. Those sintered bronze clutches don't like to be ridden too much!

I reckon the 3.5L alloy V8 was a ripper little engine. High revving little V8, went well in my fathers Rover, although ours was a fairly undeveloped version.
Walkinshaw's 4.7L version was even better!
