H & TCL League Round 9 - Spa-Francorchamps (August 31st)
Spa-Francorchamps
Designed in 1920 by Jules de Thier and Henri Langlois Van Ophem,[2] the original triangle-shaped course used public roads between the Belgian towns of Francorchamps, Malmedy, and Stavelot. The track was intended to have hosted its inaugural race in August 1921, however this event had to be cancelled as there was only one entrant.[2] The first car race was held at the circuit in 1922, and two years later saw the first running of the now famous 24 Hours of Francorchamps race.[2] The circuit was first used for Grand Prix racing in 1925.[2]
The old Spa circuit was essentially a speed course with drivers managing much higher average speeds than on other race tracks, a factor that made Spa very popular from its inception. Back then, the Belgians took pride in having a very fast circuit, and to improve average speeds, the former slow uphill U-turn at the bottom of the Eau Rouge creek valley, called the Ancienne Douane (until 1920, there was a German Empire customs office here[3]), was cut short with a faster sweep straight up the hill, called the Raidillon. Until 2000[citation needed], it was possible to travel over the race track when it was still a public road. At Eau Rouge, southbound traffic was allowed to use the famous uphill corner, while the opposite downhill traffic had to use the old road and U-turn behind the grand stands, rejoining the race track at the bottom of Eau Rouge.

Done some testing in the GTAm Alfa, really struggling for pace on this track.

Eau Rouge on cold tyres should make for an interesting first lap...

Re: H & TCL League Round 9 - Spa-Francorchamps (August 31st)
I did so badly last night, it actually became disheartening, a few times I contemplated just giving up!
My qually lap included three spins, and I spun three time on the first lap of Race 1, putting me miles behind everyone for the rest of the race.
In Race 2 I spun and crashed at the Bus Stop twice, both times wrecking a LF tyre, necessitating two pit stops. I eventually finished two laps down and everyone else finished on the lead lap.
Why do I bother?

Don't give up David. Maybe we can jump on a server one night and go through some basic setups etc...

I took a break from the sim stuff for a while Patto because I just couldn't find enough time to practice, particularly when organising the last State Round.
I am struggling a bit with the Escort also, but did about 50 laps of practice last week at Spa and managed to get a decent set up. I also try not to be a pioneer with car selection, makes it hard when you are the only Alfa punter!
I'll jump on this week and have a look at the Alfa and see whether it has some inherent weirdness in it's setup.
PS. You bother because it's fun! Sometimes we have a dud night, other times we surprise ourselves!

Re: H & TCL League Round 9 - Spa-Francorchamps (August 31st)
If its any consolation, I don't have the time to practise. My first laps at Spa were 20 mins before the start, and it showed. I had a prety crap night last night. Even Jake beat me!
I did work on a setup at the beginning of the league, and have been using that as a base each round. But league racing is what you get out of it. I do it because I enjoy it, and racing with like minded people is fun. Unfortunately there will always be faster people than you, and you will have dud nights, but I keep coming back because occasionally you will be racing with someone with a similar speed, and the dicing that occurs is just good fun.
Stay with it David!

Re: H & TCL League Round 9 - Spa-Francorchamps (August 31st)
I was pretty down on myself last night because I dated Berlsy coming into Les Combe on the second lap in R2 (many apologies again Berls because I stuffed both our races there). Really upset with myself over that one. Doubly upset because I thought I had a reasonable setup and could have been a few places higher at the end.

Re: H & TCL League Round 9 - Spa-Francorchamps (August 31st)
dont worry guys, takes time and alot of setup work comes down to trial and error and driving style. i like a tight car with limited oversteer, some like a loose, oversteery car.
i am happy to help out with an under 2.5L setup night if people are keen. am dissapearing on hols to hawaii over the next 2 weeks so maybe late september?

Re: H & TCL League Round 9 - Spa-Francorchamps (August 31st)
Hey David,
I did a quick setup with the Alfa at Spa, and managed a 2.52.7 in the second lap. There would still be a little more fine tuning, but let me know how that feels.
It will step out under hard acceleration, and long sweeping turns...but it is controllable.
I get to 5th before Eu Rouge, but change into 4th up the hill. It keeps the car stable.
Open the zip file. (It should be Alfa For David.svm). Its my setup.
This goes in (Where ever your Historix is installed): \Historics 1.96\UserData\yourname\Settings\Spa_1988

Re: H & TCL League Round 9 - Spa-Francorchamps (August 31st)
I can certainly sympathize Patto, in the short time I've been running I've had some absolute shockers. Even Sunday night I managed to bin it in the first race and finish 2 laps down, but, the run I had in the 2nd race was awesome and well worth all the shockers I've had so far... I even beat Growler! haha

Re: H & TCL League Round 9 - Spa-Francorchamps (August 31st)
its better to pick a car that you know will be easy to handle than something that you'll struggle with for the whole season. hence why i havent picked a commodore, a mustang etc

Re: H & TCL League Round 9 - Spa-Francorchamps (August 31st)
I just chose a Commy for something differrent, never driven one in a series before. My aim is simply to keep it on the road for the most part! Currently running 5th in the TCL points so consistency pays off sometimes
