Car Selections

Post by Wally26 on 4/29/2011, 5:34 am

This series you have to stick with your original cars so choose carefully.
There is 2 weeks until the start of the series so ample time for testing.
Car selections can be made from either wtcc87 or atcc87.
Reply here with your selections

I may regret this competitiveness-wise later in the season, but i'm going to take a risk in this series;

I'm driving the #14 Bastos Toyota Supra Turbo

Can I please have the ATCC Mustang?

Sorry I've forgotten the name and number.
Will find out tonight.

I agree with Milo's 2.35 cents. I don't think a pink rover is going to give anyone any kind of advantage.

Edit: Oh! Just saw Shaza's reply. Milo can keep his 2 cents.

Allowing 1986, say ETCC and Bathurst, cars does open up more Rovers, 635s etc.. as well, and still keeps the RS500 out of it as well.

This will be a great series i think, the RS Cosworth version of the Sierra that is found in the ATCC87, WTCC87 and BTCC87 sets is obviously slower than the RS500 version found in the Bathurst87 set onwards, and is more even with the other cars. It handles well, but isn't as quick in a straightline (the Commodore is much quicker for example in a straightline).

We should have alot of different cars and drivers winning, especially with the increased fuel and tyre wear, will make each race very interesting.

Maybe just use the '86 ATCC. Shaz gets her pink Rover and there are a few extra cars to choose from for the others. I do like the idea of
including the '87 BTCC cars too racer69 though.; it adds to the great selection and no RS500.! (Not that I'll be changing my selection,
very happy thanks bounce )

Done mrgreen

RE other cars etc, As Sharyn is our first ever female driver she can have the rover, it won't affect results either way.

The popularity of this mod has surprised all of us and if it continues, there will be plenty of opportunity to use some other cars

Definatly.

One of the best bits of the mod is the scope you can have with doing different series, be it ATCC, BTCC, WTCC, ETCC, DTM etc... there is no shortage of choice from that point of view, letalone all the cars.

Great to see such a rollup so far, and we are still a week and a half out from the series opener.

im fair sure ill be using the M3 for this series. But i need to do more testing. And get my setups working well.

couple other cars i wanna try out. Will have my selection during the week.

The field looks pretty commodore heavy, which is interesting.

I really wish the R31 Skyline was a better car, id love to race that. But its fair terrible to drive.

Ah well, we'll see.

Due to David being the only one in lower class cars.

We for this season will have a second class.

2nd class cars are;
Mercedes
M3
Alfa
Corrollas

I have moved myself into second class for David to have someone to run against.

selections updated on page one with my alfa and elgibo updated

Soooo, wait, theres a slower class and a faster one?

if i pick a M3 for instance, do i have no hope at winning races cos the Commo's are faster? (not JUST cos im using a ps3 remote? Razz)

hmm. might have to reconsider. im actually trying to do well this season.

dont wanna be disadv. from the first lap.

Shayn it depends on your setup and how much practice you put in. I drove a commo last season. It's pretty quick most places and lightning fast anywhere with a straight. I was smashed most of the time by racer69 in his Skyline.

The M3s were reasonably competitive most places, and fantastic on one or two tracks, like Oran Park. Keep in mind you will be slower on the straights but can brake much later.

Drive both at some of the tracks, see how you feel. For sure, the M3 is a great feeling to drive!

Re: Car Selections

In real life the M3 come 1st to 5th positions here at Monza in 1987, however due to some weight issues all the M3's got disqualified aloowing Moffat's Commodore to win.

On RFactor so far in testing I am 1 second odd slower a lap in the Alfa compared to the Rover. I am not sure whether the M3 is slower or faster than the Alfa and I am sure other drivers could make both cars go quicker.

The choice is yours shayn, there are 2 reasons I changed and that was so it doesn't become a Commodore cup and 2 is so David wouldn't be alone.
class 2 will also be inducted into the overall championship and with a long series and absentees and not all tracks being as open as Monza, the M3 has a very good chance of taking out the championship with full attendance and some careful driving ensuring you get points every race.

W26

PS. Let me know if you want an alfa video to watch as well

Only if your sure Shano, not being mean but if your sacrificing a car just to keep the field balanced..... well thats my job What a Face

The 635 is a well balanced car with some good cornering and speed both, but if your only doing it for the even field.... I would rather let the drivers pick what they want and be happy through the series instead of picking something different to keep the punters happy, my job What a Face

well ive done a bit of testing during the week and theres only two cars i am confident in getting around the course.

an M3 bmw. and an R31 Skyline.

all the others are just to hard to control with a PS3 remote, which is all ill be using, cos i cant afford a decent wheel atm. and dont really want one. lol.

and seeing as though the r31 is in the wrong category, i guess itl have to be an M3.

unless Wally wants to be a champion and allow me to use the ricoh skyline. i understand if not though.

i guess being in a lower class and actually challenging maybe, would make it worth it.

The M3 is a fantastic car to drive (I drove one in another series), but on tracks like Pukekehoe & similar
they lack the horsepower to keep up with the V8's & Turbos. On the tight circuits, however, they are very hard
to keep up with, as they corner so well & you can get on the accelerator earlier out of the corner.
The Skyline is quick, but the tyres tend to wear really quickly for some reason, so they're great in
sprint races, but become a handfull in enduros. Hope that helps in your decision making. Great idea
having 2 classes too Wally26.

Cheers

oh. p.s. Shayne, Dick Smith had (dunno if they still do) Logitech Driving Force GT wheels for $112.00 (normally $139)
Not as good as a G25 or G27 but seeing they're $200 to $400 cheaper they're extremely good value for a force feedback wheel
(and heaps more buttons on the wheel than a G25 too ), plus you can use it on PS2/3 games too (which it was originally intended for).

Obbzy, Shayne, i have a Logitech DFP wheel & pedals, very, very happy with it. Great value.

Wally, please don't put yourself out of contention just to give me a running mate. Truth is, you could probably beat me in a Corolla. I chose the M3 because I really like it and find it so much easier to drive than the other front running cars. They sound awesome too.
