pre Silverstone discussion
so the last time i played silverstone was, well, never. so i thought id jump on and have a bash at it.
very fast and sweeping track, great fun to drive. just did about 29 laps. on a basic from scratch setup, and i have managed to get a 1:39.003
sooo, judging by my past pace against you guys, im expecting a 1:30 flat from the faster people/cars.
nevertheless, a very fun and easy track to go fast around.
huge difference from the right angles at Brno.

Geez look out. Shayn is trying to get one up on us!
Good to see you going and getting used to that wheel still mate, you'll get stronger at every race, especially once you start learning the little things about these group 2 cars.
I imagine it could be a bit of a slip streaming battle between the Group 2 cars here, as we're all so close in horsepower. I can't wait for this one either, such great fun racing with you lot.

oh, i didnt know there was slip streaming in rF. lol. learn something new every day.
i need as much practice i can get. so i got out there early lol.
it amazes me that ppl turn up on saturday and qualify well without showing up once on the practice server. (but maybe they doing private practice perhaps)
im feeling positive about this next race, felt really comfortable on the course after 30 or so laps. but it is fairly straight forward. so we all should do pretty well here.

That's a good start. The sooner you can start feeling comfortable on a track, the sooner you can fine tune your setup and your lines, and if you get a chance later in the week, work on your strategy for the feature race..
Good stuff mate, keep plugging away. As always, if you need a hand with your setup, dont be afraid to ask!

The long runs and looking after the tyres will be the trick here as its just the one long race here like at Spa (as is Bathurst the week after)

BB I had the same problem. You gotta download the 1988 C4 track pack. Try here:

My best so far is a 1:30.6. Mozza was fanging his Sierra with 1:30.7 or so

Shayn - You have abit of form coming in here, your Bigazzi #43 BMW came within a lap and a half of winning the real 1987 Silvertone TT round of the WTCC.
Here is highlights of the real Silverstone event from 1987

Just a pity rf1 doesn't have rain to replicate it completely

Into the 1:34.xx's with the Alfa. Not bad for night 1 of testing.

I got nothin' here. Absolutely nothing. I spent I dunno how many laps sitting in Berlsy's draft, but yeah. Couldn't get past. Lol.

Re: pre Silverstone discussion
I took 10 laps to work my down to a 1:37.3 in my Schnitzer M3.
The Commodores were doing 1:30s and I decided this was a Commodore track, so I grabbed Webber's VL Commodore and he gave me his set-up, thanks mate. Fourth lap was a 1:37.3
Webber suggested I try a Sierra, so I grabbed an Eggenberger Texaco and my second flying lap was a 1:37.3, that includes two offs!

Re: pre Silverstone discussion
This Alfa is a strange little beast. It's down on power compared to the V8's but it's fairly nimble & easy to throw around. After clicking different settings for hours & hours I somehow manage to turn out a 1m31.2, just short of a 30. It probably helped having Dan & BillyBob in the same session, egging me on.
Back into it tonight & see if we can improve.
I think that if I'm only 1 to 1.5 secs off the pace then the Alfa may make up for it in fuel efficiency.
This is a long race right?

Definatly has better fuel economy and less tyre wear than the big cars
Silverstone though of course isn't a track that favours cars in the 1601-2500cc class like the M3's, Mercs and your Alfa.

Into the 1:33's tonight, just. Played around with the suspension/tyre settings after working out the gearing is fine.
Can get faster, but tyre wear/heat becomes a problem!!! The rear end won't behave itself either!!! Mmmmmm
More tinkering tomorrow night I think.

Re: pre Silverstone discussion
Wow lots of preparation going on here Hopefully I'll have some time on tomorrow night to get some practice in. Having to pull overtime at work at the moment Had a quick watch of the 87 race - the only mention of a volvo was one that was "having problems" That bodes well I think! As much as I love Silverstone, I wish we were doing oulton park - tis just up the road from me.

The Simonsen's did manage to bring their 240T home in 11th, so not a totally bad day for the Swedish Valiant's
I love the old Silverstone too, but i think this is probably the worst track, realism wise, of the carrera4 set..... 1987 was a milestone for Oulton Park as well actually, it was the first time since 1973 that the full circuit was re-opened, and it also hosted the first of the BTCC 1hr two-drivers races.
I've got the Supra into the high 31s, definatly more time to come, especially on race when a second or so is always found by everyone when the competition is on

I dunno, but I dont think I could find another half second, let alone a second in the race. The old Merc is at breaking point around here! Dunno about the M3 boys, or Wally, but I just can't pedal fast enough...
Bathurst and Calder will be the same too, I fear!

Re: pre Silverstone discussion
I've thought the same at some tracks, but i've found during the race you can suprise yourself with the times produced whilst chasing the car infront, or trying to keep someone behind etc...
the Merc might lose abit up and down the straight at Bathurst, but it comes into its own across the top, plus gets better fuel mileage

Re: pre Silverstone discussion
Well, with a little help from Dan last night, i got the M3 to do a 1:35.4xx, on default settings.
So hopefully with another 50-60 laps tonight, i can get it into the mid 33's. Id be pretty happy with that. Considering the quicker vehicles are doing 1:30s.
Ive accepted that im not gonna do the times the faster cars are smashing out. So a few seconds slower will suffice.
(Even though Wobbly managed to do it. But he's a freak. Im not as good as him.)
See you at the track.

Re: pre Silverstone discussion
33's will probably be a reasonable race pace for a Group 2 anyway Shayn. Sounds like you're having the same trouble as I am - seeing the Group 1's punching 30's and then looking at the time sheets and seeing a 2 second difference...
Looking at the other Group 2's if you can do 33's you'll only be just off the pace of me, so keep pushing mate.
Tried a VL yesterday, just for some giggles. Managed a 31.1 I think, fairly early on, but couldn't improve it at all. Couldn't believe it was faster in the sprint from T1-T3 than the Merc is from T3-T5 lol. I also couldn't help but make dosing sounds everytime I changed gear... I mean, it's a VL, isn't that what they all do???

Re: pre Silverstone discussion

got my time down to 1:34.574, getting closer to 33s.
Still on default settings in the M3. Only adjusted the sway bars.
Will have another crack tomorrow. Gotta get into 33s, i know its there somethere, just gotta get the 3rd corner spot on. Stoopid thing.
now its time for sleep. lol.

What a great track... why did they change it at all? Anyway, set out to do some practice and reasonably confident at a competetive time due to the fact its a horsepower track. Took a while to get the commo down to a best of 1:30.8xx and very happy i was with that.
Set up a full tank run and punched out 1:31's / 1:32's.. so i think theres a chance of a reasonable finish.
All i have to do now is get the pit stops right, which i have yet to do... always spend way too long in there, hope the net hangs on. Looking forward to some good racing.

managed to get a 1:33.369 a bit earlier.
and getting consistent 1:34s.
yew. i think i can get 1:32s, which is decent, considering i saw Dan get a 1:29.697.
awesome stuff.

If you need a setup Wally, gimme a shout/PM etc. But going by your points lead, I'm sure you know how to set the old Merc up!
