Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
So onto (in my opinion) the best track in the world for Round 8, Bathurst
This is the Asia-Pacific swing of the series after the first 7 rounds in Europe
What times are do people think they might be able to pump out?
To get us in the mood, the real round 8 of the 1987 WTCC, the Bathurst 1000

Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
Geez if I ever had a hoo-doo track, Bathurst would be the one. I've never ever done well here in any Sim, in any mod, at any time... Capping it off by probably not being able to do as much practice this week as I'd like... 'Sif it wasn't gonna be up hill for the Merc anyway!
Just a thought, and to mix it up a bit, make it a bit more realistic....
Full qualifying session in a "Practice 2" mode, then in the "Qualifying" session, we have a top 10 shootout. 10 cars, 1 lap. Do your best....
Obviously the times from the "Practice 2" qualifying session would need to be noted to ensure that the grid positions outside the 10 stay the same, and it would need to be made clear to those that aren't in the top 10 that the can't go out on track during the "Qualifying" session... but yeah.
Just a thought, from outside the box, so to speak.

Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
Last time I did Bathurst was the first competition race I did with you guys Had awesome fun and the top ten shootout was great - especially since I managed to get in on it Looking back at my rfactor score sheet, the best time I ever did in the Volvo turned out to be my hot lap in the top ten!! A 2:16.8. Just had a quick bash earlier this evening and could only manage 2:20!! I'm a little out of practice on the mountain it seems. In the race I recall I had a good dice with Bersly - Volvo was pretty good over the top and his VK was killing me in the straights. Should be a great race with the class 2 cars over the top. Bathurst is my all time favourite track and is on my "to do" list for 2012. Just gotta save up enough for flights.......

Bathurst 87 cars sounds good, not sure about 2 hours race might be a bit of a struggle but top ten shootout would be tops
hope i finish better than the real perkins, watch the video 4:45

Had to laugh at Nissan, in the video.... Racing the "old" DR30, while the pace car is the "new" R31 GTS1... There's ya priorities lol!
Either way I'm easy Wally. 2 hours would certainly add even more strategy into the mix...
And, yeah, gotta have a top 10!

Yeah, the R31 wasn't homologated until i think August 1, 1987... and its official debut wasn't until the WTCC round at Fuji in November... as it was the ATCC Nissan R31's never arrived until Rd5 of 1988 at AIR
Those PJ DR30's were sturdy beasts though

Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
so i used to race this track alot againt the AI in the R31.
but
i had most of the assists on.
so yeah, im sucking atm. i got a 2:25.6, thats the best i have managed so far.
mozza helped out with some settings advice, and the car is much more stable now.
just gotta find the right braking points and best line.
fun.

Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
A 2:26 isn't bad for an M3, especially to start with.
What hurts the M3 at Bathurst is the run from Hell Corner to Sulman Park, it comes into its own on the way back down the Mountain. Bathurst is a track that once you suss it out you can make seconds up (to an extent), and there is rarely a lap that you get spot on.

My favourite track. Oddly, I do particularly well here in real life, but really struggle in rFactor. Go figure.
I fractured the base of my spine a few years ago in a big crash at Morgan Park. There is no way i can sit for 2 hours. Top 10 shoot out would be fun.

Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
ok let's go for one hour......
due to introing the more powerful sierra we might stick to 87atcc/wtcc
top ten will be on
I will probably share a bmw with shazam on the computer that does work which will mean i will be out of my merc for the rest of the season as we cant go back to a previous car if we swap
sorry about results for last week but i am working on trying to get a new server up and running

rules are made to be broken wally, think of it more as youre sitting out of your car this race. borrowing someone elses. just go back to the merc when its over. id love to run the 31 around here, although its taily as all hell and i probably wont do very well ha.

Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
done a few laps around the mountain in the M3.
best i did was like a 1:25.1. Which is waaay off the pace lol, but i reckon ive only done about 20 laps, i think i racked up about 300 at Silverstone lol.
so yeeah. sunday is a long time away, gotta get it down.
theres not really alot of places to shave seconds. soo, i dunno.

You'll find more time than you think Shayn. The trick to Bathurst is practice and patience... plus the fact that its rare that anyone does the perfect lap.

Thanks Wally
1m19.7 is astonishingly quick for a Volvo around there.
I'm at roughly the same pace at the moment in the Supra.

the prima target server at Bathurst.
im fairly sure it isnt my connection, i just went and drove around in a random server for about half an hour or more didnt get dropped.
i went into the Bathurst server after that and lasted about 8 minutes, and got "connection lost" again.
ive reset my modem and checked all the settings for firewall etc.
im out of ideas lol.

cant get a good run in to test tyres etc when the session is only 20 mins. thats only roughly 11 laps. ( mozza.)

All the top times were done in Sierra's (the car names listed are with which you first raced during season 1... eg Shayn's first race was in a Corolla) I still have the replay of that race though shayn, you were racing a Sierra RS500.

Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
Phew! Cheers for posting that wally Looking at my quali time again - 1:19. The faster time I have on my bio must of been in a sierra. Was wondering why I was so far away from it in my vovo. Managed another 1.19 in quali for our little race today. Stuffed it into a wall a bit later on whilst leading....keep changing down too early at the top through the esses - really really twitchy when I'm pushing it. How did you like the brick then dan? Not a bad package for Bathurst imo. Just wish you could turn the boost up for quali.
I have a question - do people change down into 2nd for turn 2 or do you keep it in 3rd? I've seen racers do both when I've been watching the 1000. Which is generally used? 3rd for less strain during the race or is it a per car/gearbox setup?

I think it depends on the car. Some don't have the torque to pull out of XL Bend in 3rd gear so need 2nd gear for abit of punch up towards the cutting. In the Supra i need 2nd gear, but previously in the Sierra i could sweep through in 3rd.
In real-life it was much of a muchness, Peter Brock was always big on going through there in 3rd gear, while Allan Grice always used 2nd (it was how Grice was able to pass Brock on the run out of there a couple of times over the years)

Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
What a joke. Seriously. A Merc, in the backup server, with 9 other cars. Which included Sierras, Commodores and a Volvo.
I just left after 8 laps... I was coming out of Forest Elbow and the leaders were crossing the line. Seriously, why would I wanna do a race for a whole hour by myself?
Edit - I should add that I mean this as no disrespect to Wally or the admins at TTR, it's just a very frustrating occurance. Maybe next time the Group 1's can be put together and the Group 2's in the other server...

Got booted anyway mate. Was having a good dice after making a mistake then pitting. Brought some of the field back together again. My favourite track Really a shame it ended this way. I'll take my 10 points for disconnect pls.
Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
Hey Guys
Just Remember these servers aren't free even though we had already paid for the month Wally paid out more for additional New server to try and stop the problem with the TCL. It didn't work and to try and make sure everyone could race he obviously split the field to try and still make it work. It wasn't something he had time to plan.

Yeah on short notice not much else could really be done, thanks to Wally & Benny for at least trying to put something together in the heat of the moment of race night. In the end at least we got a race, was just a shame that it was Bathurst that it happened at.
Following on from discussions happening during the night in the chat box, I don't think the mod specifically is the problem here.

Don't get me wrong - I really really appreciate all the work and money you guys put into it Just a shame for me thats all. Oh well - I'll be there next time
Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
I wish I knew what the problem is but I do think it is mod or conflict with user versions in some way The last 3 Tuesday's we have had same numbers as you guys with no server problems same with Saturday a couple of weeks ago with 15 no dramas.
Maybe we need to look at running our own version ie our own skinned cars grouped separately under a ttr folder so we all have 100% the same. Not sure if it is the solution but might be worth a try
If someone knows how to even just create a ttr folder within tcl with all the atcc 87 and wtcc cars in it I'm happy to host the download so we give it a try for next week

20 cars there tonight, i left so regulars could get in and practiced v8s again i didnt mind one bit
but looking through these 4 pages i see wally has put in money to help keep things running and wally and wally and wally
for such a big turn out i thought atlest 5 of the 20 would have become financial members even if its 15$ every couple of months to help out,
cost more than that to drive to town to go to the pub or to get out 2 vids

I've been on other servers & leagues with TCL, running as many as 25-30 cars and haven't had these problems. And even on TTR, these issues have only come up in the last few weeks, really just since Spa, the first part of the season and all last season the mod ran fine on here....

Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race
I put in the money because Benny has built a fantastic league and you guys are THE BEST AND FAIREST I HAVE ever had the pleasure of racing with.
I am not the hero here, 1st of all I can't say enough about the efforts benny has put into this and all this with raising a young family as well....
I enjoy this racing and will try my best i have the knowledge of and or that i can financially to make this work, I feel more capacity on the server is the first step I will take.
It looks like at least 24 slots is needed and depending on how easy it is to mix the races together if any over 20.. then we might throw people onto a second server.
I do agree totally that next time we make the second server if needed class based instead of top ten time based as to who goes to another server.
My apologies for this as I was trying to think quickly on what to do and made an error there..
once again my apologies and just to recap, it's benny who put in the effort and it is YOU RACERS that make it a great league.
