Re: Rd8 - Bathurst 120km pre-race

Post by TTR Benny on 7/10/2011, 10:28 pm

I agree didn't have problem early in the season. If anyone has seen this before please pm me, I did heaps of reading last week and found it was reasonably common but I found a few being outcomes being track related. So being that spa and silverstone were in the same folder I was thinking that it was possibly that. I also reinstall the server just incase.

The only thing I can think of is that a reinstall of everyones tcl and clear custom skins but that being the download is so massive a big thing to ask. If we could set a TTR custom folder with set skins I thought it would be a smaller download but have everyone running the same.

A few people have over the last few weeks been creating their own liveries and 'replacing' the standard liveries with their own under the same file name. Apparently this wasn't meant to affect anything, as it only made a difference on their personal computers...

The timing of when that started though coincides with when we started having issues on here... perhaps that is the root of the problem? Everyone just running the standard TCL 1.1 with no alterations or changes at all personally could be the right way to go

(i personally have two rf-lite installs of TCL on my computer, one which is untouched & standard which i use for online play, and another rf-lite install for personal offline use which i've played around with)

i cant see how skins would affect anything. if the file names remain as they are supposed to then it doesnt matter what the image in the file looks like.

and if the file names were wrong you would get a mismatch and not be allowed to join at all. which isnt the case.

i did a fresh install last week, so i am running everything stock.

i guess it couldnt hurt for people to revert car skins back to their originals.

but i highly doubt that skins would cause mass server dropouts one after the other.

i would happily throw in a few dollars to help get more cars in. or a more stable server. i was quite annoyed at the fact once i dc/ed i couldnt get back in due to new comers.. half of which didnt even register. i think a series set password, instead of the pass thats in the server info for everyone to see....

ive seen on other forums that there is restricted areas that require 10 or more posts to view.. possibly set up something like that for passwords.

you did the best you could wally. good job mate.

also is it possible to get admins on the prac server. id happily become one jsut so we can easily restart session etc.

Thanx mate for volunteering last night and although I wasn't on that server, I am sure you did a fantastic job, thanx mate

Nah mate it was nothing, just a quick grid edit and next session, doesn't compare to your efforts.

Race report is coming but just pulled an all nighter to finish some work.. TCL with the F1, then tour de france an aussie is smashing it... too much fun stuff on

Thinking about this today, this is perhaps a good idea. I'd be more than happy to have a go at putting together an '88 ATCC and Bathurst skinpack for next season if a skinpack is the answer Smile

....

As for new members taking the place of regulars. Perhaps a solution could be (assuming we still have a seperate race server and practice server like last night)

The regulars get a new password PM'd to them say the Saturday of each round, giving them access to the race server. Any new entries could join the practice server, and if some of the regulars don't turn up (perhaps we could encourage letting us knw if you can't make it) then the new guys on the prac server can be moved over the join the main series. If all the regulars show up, then some races could still be run on the prac server for the new members? Just an idea, i've no idea if its workable or not Smile

Ok Guys as you know we are attempting to get these servers sorted out. I appreicate the offers to contribute to get a better server but we have a good quality australian one. To make sure it wasn't the server wally did go and get another quality Australian server last week but unfortunately we still had the same dramas.

So It isn't the servers that are playing up so we need to look further which we have. These servers run fine all last series with this mod and we have maxed them out in other mods without any dramas. I Believe one of us or maybe a few have something a little different in our TCL installs that is causing the crashing.

So there are two steps we need to look at Firstly is the Skins secondly more drastic look at us all reinstalling a seperate fresh Rfactor with a new TCL on it to eliminate chances of errors. I understand that it is a massive download so what we need we try first is test the skins.

After many many hours as I have never done this have made a TTR Vehicle folder within the TCL mod. This will not impact your installs other than adding a new group of cars. To keep it to a min have only included one skin of Each car that we run so the download is only around 15meg and I need as many members as possible to download. What we then need to do is try and get all of us on the server tomorrow night to push the server to it's limits. With this it still gives us time to take the other step before sundays race.

The file is located at http://www.ttrracing.com/ttrskinsfixed.rar NEW LINK

Server is setup Running with these Skins

OK downloaded the skins and they work,

Great idea by the way, are you thinking the problem is caused by too many different cars having to be loaded (cos everyone is in a different car)?

That is one possible problem was also thinking we have all raced this mod at so many different leagues and made changes to skins and bits and pieces. I think one or a few of us are creating a conflict with each other so first set remove the custom skins and start with a fresh one.

It might not be the skin we are running that is causing the problem for example we changed the BMW to a different skin at another league like shaynskyline's bmw has and when that bmw came with now three different skin options under that same BMW. If not saying that this is the answer or our problem as more than likely it is going to be somewhere else in the mod but we need to start somewhere so we can go back to running problem free

i think we should just try a fresh install, to save the hassle of re downloading 1 GIG, perhaps post the link of where you got your download of the TCL, then tally up which DL has the most and then get everyone including the server to download the mod again and fresh install. ???

That would be the best thing but 1 gig for everyone is not always possible. If the skin fix doesn't work that will be the next step even if I host a small version with only 87 cars in the mod

I will have a look at the sound error tonight I have never added skins etc I spent most of yesterday working out how to do it. I'm sure it wont be anything big probably just a folder name in the sound file

OK Benny got your TTR files working with sounds

just had to copy some files elsewhere:

in ../GameData/Vehicles/TCL/ , you had a folder with all our cars in them called TTR87.

but all the other folders like ATCC87 are in individual car folders, like "HOLDEN VL" within the TTR directory.

so I thought there might be some references to other folders like the Sounds folder which might be off because the directory level had changed.

So I made a new folder in the "HOLDEN VL" called TTR87, and in that folder copied your TTR64.dds and TTR64.veh

and all good.

For the Server skin test the Sierra has error (sorry guys I have never modded skins or directories so have done my best) and isn't working but others appear fine and it will still enable us to test the load ratio to crash. If those running that vehicle please just choose another car for tonight.

if tonight fails again the request to reinstall everyones TCL will have to me made so we can continue to run this great series problem free. I do agree with Dan about the best is fresh install of rfactor and TCL is the best, but I know a download that big not everyone can do so if we try the skins first.

To Make this a little easier I have downloaded a Copy of TCL today and taken out all of the cars other than ATCC 87 & 88 BATH 87 & 88 and WTCC 87. This has all the other files for the mod and brings the download back to 500meg. Will also create a download with the balance for people to download later. With this download you would be covered for the this series and next one.

I'm currently uploading the file to megaupload server and will post a link when it's up probably not till the end of the day maybe the even tomorrow morning

Finally I understand this is annoying and im sure everyone is positive it is not there install causing the problem, but getting kicked mid race is more annoying and we are trying a very best to get this problem fixed so we can continue to run this mod now and into the future.

I would like to thank Benny for his tireless work on our problems. I have had issues with a car yard which I won't name, the car mine, cnr rode and gympie road's Kedron QLD, over vehicle I have bought there that obviously wasn't properly roadworthy. When I demanded another more suitable vehicle and they supplied one .... then Someone at that caryard must of been upset because the water system had suddenly topped up with what looks like Kitten #2 polish. They eventually had to fix it but it has been a long drawn out process which has taken up a lot of time of my holidays which I had intended to use updatiing the site and some quality time with Sharyn.

Benny has been outstanding and I thank him from bottom of my heart. I hope everyone realizes the work he put's into this whole operation and his passion for creating a friendly place we can all come to and enjoy our obsession......oops i meant hobby.

Thanx Benny, one in a million mate.
