Re: Post winton
Well GroupCAction showed us all a thing or two tonight.
He went from last on the grid to first.
Race was all about tyres. Racer69 and I had an epic battle for the first what, 20 laps? He holding me off very effectively. That destroyed our tyres though and after GCA cruised up behind, it was only a matter of time before the BMW sneaked past. Though my Sierra managed to get back past him as his own tyres began to fade.
Racer pitted too early. He needed 2 stops. I pitted too late. Lost loads of time running slow on the first set of tyres.
GroupCAction pitted at the perfect time, didn't drop too far behind me while my tyres were fresh, and then pounced when I oversteered just before the pits. After that it was all over.
Big shame to see dan_gtsx D/Q'd, but FANTASTIC to see billy bob's internet hold out til the finish (strong 3rd), bad luck Wally with your technical dramas,

Re: Post winton
bl abt the DQ dan.
Quick one cos im angry. lol.
Qualified in 6th place which was great, got a 1:01.6? i think. My best of the week.
SPAZ had me beat half way through, then i took back 6th. Awesome.
Qualy was the best part of the race really.
The minutes respect for Brocky was nice, i had my view on really zoomed out angled swingman cam, so it was a nice touch to see Peter308 going around by himself.
He must've missed the message.
My race sucked, bad. Got off to a great start and was running along in 4th for about 5 laps, out of position really, i knew couldnt keep it up.
I was chasing Berlsy with Grpc behind me on my ass, stayed with Berlsy for a while, then i ran wide like an idiot and he got away also letting GrpC past. Then SPAZ caught up to me in the M3. Tried to keep him behind me for as long as i could. Then, i ran wide again, surprise surprise and he got by.
Damn them M3s are fast in turns, with no significant straight to catch up, they have a huge advantage.
All went down hill from then on. GF came home and started cracking the shits at me cos i wouldnt open the door and she had to jump the fence and go round the back.
So im half driving half having an argument. FML.
Wally, i just looked at the replay and i was driving like a maniac at this time mate, really sorry. I wasnt tryna be a jerk and block you all over the place, was just tryna keep it on the track. Major distraction going on. So yeah, really sorry man.
Then i spun it after Wally got by and Racer flew by leaving me in 8th, when i smashed into the wall at the end of the back straight. So from 4th to 8th in about 4 laps.
Pitted on lap 31 with 6L left in the tank in 5th spot, having jumped acouple guys in the pits. Came out in 9th place.
By lap 40 i had caught up to Wally who passed me earlier, took me about 5 laps to get by him after being lapped by BillyBob. Made an outside move on Wally in the late turns, and just as i passed him he flew off the track, i was worried that i nudged him, but apparently his wheel had a dummy spit. Phew.
Then it was plain sailing to the end.
Pretty disappointing result as with all the DNFs i was basically second last.
Well done to GrpC for the win, i knew he would do it here, i sampled the M3 in practice, and my god that thing is fast here. So yeah, great drive to you mate.
Webber for second, well done. And mostly congrats to BillyBob for the 3rd spot,
and getting to the end of the race. Great to see.
An interesting night. Maybe next week will be better.
PS.
Sorry about the "short" post, it just all comes flooding back when i start typing lol.

Great Race Tonight absolutely loved it..
Thanks Wal for the brocky tribute.. ive only ever shed a tear for two people that have passed on during my life, one was my father and the other was Peter Brock.
Congrats to GoupC and Webber and bad Luck to Dan bad way to end... and sorry to the front row who i hit at the end of the formation lap.
Quali was good getting 4th spot i think??.
Got off to a good start but a bit of early bump and grind saw me out on the grass and back to 9th.
Fought my way slowly back and struggled to find a rythm as i picked my way through to about 5th and on the back of shano.. what a dice that was must have been nearly half the race trying to edge closer but there was nothing in it.. and i was relying on an error on his part to let me get by wnich came in time and i got 4th i think,, until i made an error and he reclaimed the spot, this continued for a few laps until i finally got ahead and pitted on L28.
Pitstop went well tyres and fuel and rejoined in 7th or 8th Pushed on and after other pitstops i found myself in 3rd. I kept pushing as i knew racer was closing in and i was running out of tyres. But tyres and internet held on to give me third pos.
As ever Great racing by all very clean indeed.

Re: Post winton
now that i dont want to throw my monitor out the window ill explain what happened.
On the fomation lap, as we were all lining up i left room going onto the main straight from webber to get some speed up and warm the brakes for one last time. But where we started the formation lap wasnt where we had to line up so i just pulled it up diving of to the side avoiding webber. i put 3 wheels onto the grass on the straight and it gave me a (what i thought was a drive through ) but it was a stop go for cutting the track. then i left it a lap too late as the drive through i did didnt work so i got Dqed and booted.
was bummed i didnt get to race. webber and racer's battle allowed me to preserve my tyres abit. would of made it interesting.

Bugger! There goes class pole. Might still get the class win, ala Steven Bradbury.
I knocked a second off my pb in practice, couldn't repeat the feat in qually. Still happy to qualify in the top 14, because i had an ace up my sleeve. I reckoned I might get through without stopping, if i start on medium tyres and a full tank.
Early laps were heaps of fun, had a great dice wih Steve Hicks in the Callaghan Commodore, we were nose to tail for lap after lap, nearly gave him a couple of steel enemas, my flat spots saved him from feeling like the queen of a mardi gras after party.
Eventually he joined the Leyland Bros and went bush leaving me all alone for the rest of the race. When we reached half distance, I still had more than half a tank, so I was no longer worried about having to splash and dash at the end, as long as the tyres held out.
Natural attrition, some unkind souls might call it natural selection, saw me eventually climb to 9th place, without ever actually passing anyone. With 6 minutes to go, the front tyres started to go off and the car was understeering, but i had no places to lose or gain, so i just took it easy, backing off early for the corners and turning in gently.

Re: Post winton
Firstly i'm really happy for GroupC in getting the win, a great drive from the back of the grid
Due to the massive tyre wear i was getting in practice, coupled with the short pitlane, i decided before the start to gamble on doing a 2-stopper.
At the start i wasn't able to out-drag Webber into turn 1, but i decided to have a real go on the first lap to try and get infront knowing i was planning to stop twice. I managed to slip up the inside into Tank Corner on the first lap, and held a slight gap over Web for the first few laps, but we were generally running the same pace, and establishing a break over the rest of the field.
After 10 laps though my tyres were rooted, and after 15 absolutly gone. Webber was all over me, i must apologise for how slow i was in some of the corners at the time, you never nudged me once i don't think It was a great dice though, Webber was all over me, and about lap 16/17 Group C eased up behind us and started carving though.
GroupC got passed me for the lead in a great move around the back of the track on lap 20. I was planning to pit then anyway so i dived in for some new tyres.
The plan worked ok as i came out in some clear road, with Shayn, KDSR, Shano & Billybob not too far ahead, and i started closing in immediatly with the newer tyres. Towards lap 30 they all began pitting too, so i was back up to third.... however i had a lose coming onto the main straight which cost me... GroupC then made his stop and i came out a few seconds ahead. GrpC started closing in as he now had the fresher tyres. I was too busy looking in my mirrors around the back of the track with him behind that i slid off, rejoining a second or so behind Group C..... Webber then pitted too and came out not too far ahead of me..... my strategy was really working anyway, but my two mistakes killed the whole thing off
My tyres were finished again by then, Web & GroupC getting away at a second a lap, with me in third about 25secs infront of billybob. I was sliding all over the place with Bersly a lap back behind me. I was so slow off the corners that Bersly nudged me into the infield. Don't sweat about it Bersly, i know i was heaps slower than you at the time, and i was all over the place, nothing you could do
It left me with hardly any gap back to 4th, so i made my planned 2nd pitstop and planned to charge home. I came out in 6th, and chased down Shano, getting him about 5 laps from the end, KDSR pitted and i got to within about 5secs of billybob before the gap stabilised over the last few laps, so 4th is where i ended up
Special mention to KDSR, great job on debut, and also to Steve Hicks & Buz. hopefully you guys become Sunday regulars too
Now we "Go West" to Wanneroo, roll on

also wally, can you modify race rules? because shouldnt cutting track give you a warning not just a straight up stop/go?

Are you sure the penalty was for cutting the track?
It might have been for jumping the start, as you had overshot your grid marking and crossed the start line?

Re: Post winton
WOW... what a great night... I ONLY JUST MADE this round... Would of been really annoyed if i had of missed it. Got back from an epic weekend up in Coffs for the WRC.
So yeah missed Quali but i had worked on a race setup with the M3 that i knew would be competitive.
Race: Started stone cold last but got a good getaway and think i passed 2-3 on the exit of turn 1, man thats a tight turn with 15 Touring cars swarming through it. From there it was about finding a rhythm as i didnt have a chance to warm up... Took me a few laps to get into it and i must apologize to Wally...
Really sorry mate, my cat ran under my pedals and i pinched not only him but half the brake pedal. Lil bastard won't be in my raceroom anymore!!
After that little mishap i pushed on and caught Shayn and Bersly... Us 3 seem to of hungout at every round at some stage and this was no different. I had a great battle with the 3 of them for about 2-3 laps, was great to see the different strengths of the different cars, i got passed Shayn after he made a little mistake then had another ding dong with Bersly until i got passed him. Man that Commo musta been hell around here, but props to him for running really strong!!!
From there it was about chasing down Webber and Racer who were having a titanic battle, there's tyres must of gone off as i caught them alittle quicker than i thought i would of! Racer pitted and i knew he come out strong on new tyres so i pitted abit earlier than i planned to try and stay on the pace of him. Quick stop, saw me back out and behind Racer, he made a rare mistake and slid off & from there it was head down to try n jump Webber ... Then Webber pitted, he came out just as i turned into 1, i got around him and from there we had a great battle until Webber had a half lose. I regained the lead and went on to win!!
Thank you Webber n Racer for the kind words... That race and the battles we had have already made this series for me... It summed up everything the ATCC was back in the day!! I was really looking at podiums when i came into this season, but this win has got me really excited for some of the other tighter tracks thats for sure!!
