Round 6 - Lakeside
After a small mid-season break, we resume at a track that i'm sure is very dear to alot of our hearts, Lakeside
Yet again laptimes will, i think, be around the 55sec mark, and although a quick flowing circuit, the constant corners put a high wear on tyres.
This race in 1988 saw the only non-Shell Sierra victory of that seasons ATCC, with Tony Longhurst taking the win thanks to Dick Johnson copping a 60sec penalty for creeping at the start... Johnson finished second, managing to make up about 40sec on Longhurst of the 60 he needed..
As a warm-up, the 1985 ATCC round from Lakeside

Re: Round 6 - Lakeside
Shame about the hour races Wally, was great to get into a rythym and last the distance.
But I guess if it attracts more people then that's better. And gives people the chance to score points if they d/c from the first rcae right?
Turned a few laps at lakeside last night and wasn't doing very well with iit at firrst getting mainly 59s, but I did your 20 lap technique and got that down to low 57s.
If I could another second off at a consistant rate, I'd be happy as.
Also, if you wanna do something different set the race time to about 730pm, chuck yur headlights on and do some testing with the AI. Night driving is great fun.
Whens the prac server going online?

Re: Round 6 - Lakeside
Shame the 1hr races got the axe, loved the single race format... but this format might help me as i've seemed much harder on my tyres than Webber & Dan so far this season..
Will the 3 enduro's still be of the original format, particularly Bathurst?

Agreed with the above, I loved the 1 hour format, but people were dropping out and full respect to Wally26's decision.
Hopefully the enduros are still long though.

yes, after doing the two hour race on Saturday night, i am in favour of a long race for the ATCC88 enduros.

Re: Round 6 - Lakeside
we'll use lakeside as a trial then and do a poll afterwoods
if shorter races win then oran endurance will be 1 hr
sandown 75 minutes
bathurst 1.5 hours

I'm not too fussed which way we go with races... I was really enjoying the longer format, gives my Bimmer a better chance haha but if we do what Wally mentioned above, 3 Enduros... That'd be a good mix of shorter & longer races till the end of the season!! Fire Up... LAKESIDE... It's on!!!

Wally is there any chance we change to one of these Lakeside's for this coming weekend...

They are FAR better than the current one up on the server... Way more accurate..

Have to agree with groupC.
I didnt know these other two existed. Having tried them, the current server one is the ugliest one and its pretty basic. The LakesideRaceway one seems alot more life like.

The LakesidePark2.00 version locks up at the loading screen sometimes though.
The International Raceway one works fine.
Prolly just my pc though. Dunno.

The first one listed above is an extremely accurate rendition of Lakeside as it is today.
The second one listed above is an extremely accurate version of Lakeside as it was in 2008.
The only other Lakeside i know of is a highly "romanticised" version of Lakeside as it was in the 1960s.

Re: Round 6 - Lakeside
The reason we havent used the other versions is at the time i tested them(unless updates have been made since) they weren't very good for using the pits. There is issues with the track we use though, and drivers will have to be careful here. if you go off and miss the sector markers on the track the lap won't be counted so dont go off at eastern loop. also if you spin coming down the hill after eastern loop and go to infield near pits, it will think your pitting and ping you for speeding in pits when you get back on track and head off down the straight.

If this round is going to be to sprint races do you guys think in the 30min race we'll need to stop??? The current one on the server is very narrow, i'm just thinking it could also lead to a crash fest all through the race thats all...

Once again Wally is on top of everything, guess there's more to consider than how a track appears.

server will be set to 2xtyres, 2xfuel
I imagine we wont have to stop.
the real track at the time was also very narrow, the v8's got through this version of lakeside a week or 2 ago and i am confident our guys will have the skill to drive this without too many crashes.

Re: Round 6 - Lakeside
We did get through fine with people stopping for tyres as well
We did have some issues in Qual with people coming out of pits and stopping on the track etc but they were caused by non - members not regulars. In fact the we ended up shutting the server down and passwording it because of them after qual.
Any drivers with respect for each other I don't believe it will be a drama. That being said webber might need to watch out for Paul weel show up in his tradelink Falcon

Re: Round 6 - Lakeside
Lakeside on the server is as close as we are going to get to how it was in 1988.
next series after this I am toying around with using the zcar(minis). maybe for a bit more of a fun sort of series.
if this eventuates we can use tracks like the 2008 version of lakeside which is very bumpy, hitchin, amaroo, mallalla and some fun tracks from around the world....thoughts?

Re: Round 6 - Lakeside
Although i quite like the 1 hr race, it makes my odds of finishing pretty slim due to a problematic internet connection.. so the sprint format will work a bit better for me.
Wal originally said that you would need to complete race 1 to get a spot in race 2 and no points for race 1, now the points dont really bother me but if i do get d'ced in race 1 I would like to be able to line up for race 2 ?

Sadly I'm out for this one as well, lady and gents... watching the Aus vs NZ rugby match with some mates.
Shame cos I was really looking forward to the smaller cars being feisty little ones here.
Good luck!
