Re: Pre Hockenheim Round 1
From What i saw the Volvos had great top speed but the merc had little better cornering BMW was driven unbelievably well by webber to extract more than most could have out of it on a track that shouldn't favor it at all.
My opinion seeing a range of drivers at different levels tonight the cars in the dtm87 across the board are going to be most even series wally has put together with this mod so far

Re: Pre Hockenheim Round 1
I was on Shano's ass for whole 20mins race in the Alfa, never more than 1.5 behind him. Came in second behind him. Volvo had just that little too much speed.
Average of .800 behind him i reckon.
If you can drive, even an M3 can do very well at Hockenheim, which gives it a good chance for other tracks.
Sure it woulda been different had Wally been there, the mustang is stoopid fast here.
Gonna be an awesome series i think. Everyone has a chance to do well.

Had a good little run around in Race 2 last night... Will have to spend a few nights tuning the Volvo's setup as i rocked up without any setup at all... Looks like it's going to be a great championship with lots of different people in and around the leading pack!!

Re: Pre Hockenheim Round 1
A shame i couldn't make it to the 'curtain raiser' last night, my computer got infected with a virus on saturday, so i spent the rest of the weekend trying to fix it... all good now though
I think the series will provide alot of 'natural parity' with the cars. The Mustang for instance will be at home at Hockenheim and Avus, but not at Zolder where the M3s, Mercs and Alfa's will be at home... should be pretty interesting

had a decent test run last nite still gettin to know the box car lol...was happy wit short runs in the car but race pace was a second slower.. so spendin the week gettin that sorted and think can do well at least at first round... then will be a challenge on the tight stuff as not think this car cut it on tight stuff... but gonna have a good crack at it...
i think this gonna be a tough season...

a guy said a smart thing tonight on the server.
"are you trying too hard?"
i lold, but then took it easy and got 2:12.505, which is my best so far.

Re: Pre Hockenheim Round 1
I struggled a bit last night I think probably doing the same thing over driving . My best time Sunday Night was in the race was 2:13.8 but last night first lap was 2:14.1 and then failed to go any quicker for the rest of the night.
I'm struggling through the chicanes especially the first one and lossing a second to a second and half through the first sector due to this. I tried multiple attacks at it last night but seem to cross the line at an average of around 43 secs and a best of 42.625. Second Sector I'm round about maybe half a second down, and the last sector when I put it together I'm within a exceptable gap in sector splits when you take ability into it.
Mozza past me his setup which has helpfull and getting use to Merc which I had never run until Bathurst this year and can now see why mozza and Wally26 rave about them. I personally am never going to stick this on pole or at the pointy end and I'm only working on fuel fuel hard tyre runs at the moment but I hope over the distance of the race I will be able to work my way up into the points.

Re: Pre Hockenheim Round 1
I've found with the chicanes, if you slow down earlier you get through them quicker.
It sounds wrong but it does work, if you try and smash through them, you will lose time everytime, unless you fluke it.
I'm still having trouble with them, but braking earlier and hitting each oif the ripple strips with your outside tyre is much faster than smashing in and braking late.
I'm getting on the brakes now right before the 200 metre marker and I got my best time.
The smoother and better the line you take the faster you will go.
This is what I've found/been told, it might not work for all but it seems to work for me.

Re: Pre Hockenheim Round 1
Shayn, that's what nearly every advanced driving instructor will say. Slow in, fast out is the motto.
The tiny amount you gain by coming in hot is easily eclipsed by the massive amount of time you will lose with an untidy exit. This is especially true at Hockenheim.

Re: Pre Hockenheim Round 1
Well, the people that helped me out here initially, know what they are on abt.
So I don't take credit. I'm just practicing what I've been told.
It is very hard to ease off and take it slow when you're trying to go fast.
But it does work.
Will it get my Alfa to the 11s? Ehhhhh not sure lol.

both normal....
btw dtm ran at a shorter version of hock
2.6 kilometres track
however to my knowledge rfactor doesnt have this shorter version
so on sunday the race will be set to 25 laps /50 minutes
the real race went 40 laps around 50 minutes

That was the loosest official practice night ever.
I missed race 1, I'm sure that was a little better.
Well done on the two wins Wally.

Re: Pre Hockenheim Round 1
Missed first race as well jumped on as Race 2 started thanks for waiting.
Taking one for the team decided to spend the session seeing how slow you can actually go and where you might finish if you did this. Finshed better than I thought even using this method
My Second part of testing was to find out what damage each bit of guard rail around the track does to the car and how safe mozza our number one driver for Team Merc would be if something went wrong (valueable data collected here made sure in a couple sections testing twice).
Was also worried about the rollcage padding mine appeared that someone had cut up some kids pink pool floaty noodles instead using armaflex which I would have expected (Bit of research just found the car was previously owned by P Plater in broadmedows), but can report after a couple of good roll overs that I would have hit my head on this make shift rollcage padding for sure I can report that .......... Sorry what was I saying ? Where am I?
My Final Test was to check out the Pit crew fuel and tyres was all good nice and quick. Webber helped me out testing out the start line officals and made sure the guys counted the ten seconds properly in the stop go Thanks mate was running out of time to test everything in one session. As I said guys were great on tyre changes but With damage repairs I'm pretty worried about sunday, I have just rung AAMI and there phone service shuts at 7pm and My guys did nothing on the car until they received that signed and approved insurance claim before they started any work. I assured them I would pay if insurance had any issues but they wouldn't have a bar of it. Worst part was they bought some cheap parts out of mozza's merc wrecking yard (charged for new), Mozza assures me he sold them the correct stuff for that year but have my doubts it just looks weird now might have to go knock some stuff of Spaz's car before sunday

Jumped in late loaded Mozza's setup which is fantastic but with my lack of abillity to Mozz forgot to make some adjustments pre race to the dial in some grip on the rear was to loose for me and struggled most the race doing plenty of damage along the way.

Glad some liked it couldn't think of anything good to report about my night so thought I might as well make some fun of driving last night
By the Way DV8 I don't know if I spun you had same problem at melbourne Your pings was massive up and down though ranging from 50 - 1800. I could see you were near me on the map but your car was no where to be seen on the track. If I did punch you off I'am sorry

Not too sure what the problem is. I got a much better connection recently. It seems to happen after 1 or 2 races. I will have to try a few things.

Re: Pre Hockenheim Round 1
On Thursday Race you connection was great but then race 3 your ping was jumping to well over 1800 but then a second later back at 60 almost like someone on a laptop at the same time download on and off while your trying to play. Maybe if this could be the case they are getting Priority from the modem and dropping you back everytime they use it.
I know we touched Friday but once again car would just jump left and right was really hard to follow without touching. But last night the car just wasn't there. I was watching the map and your dot would disapear then drop back 30 sec behind then suddenly the results showed you were .3 ahead of me but your car was no where to be seen.
Once again I am really sorry I can only assume at the end of the second straight I pushed you off as you dropped out after that but for me I was racing by myself not with you

Maybe it's some auto-update of your operating system, software, antivirus, even a virus, etc. that kicks in? That would cause your internet to lag...

It's all good Benny! Those parts came off Wallys (you know, that traitorous Mustang driver) Merc from the WTCC87 series, so they should all fit! I took great pleasure in dismantling his Merc, piece by piece!
I will be working on my setup tonight at some stage though, I've got a few things that were of concern last night, so if I see you around before Sunday, I'll toss you the final product.

Its all good Benny I didn't know what the hell was going on probably the closest I will come to time travel. Yeah race 3 in the Z cars my connection at the start of the race went right off the dial and proceeded to get back to normal quickly. Anyway looking forward to the race don't mind the longer distance in the M3 it isn't familiar with the term tyre wear.
