Post Calder Park
Had some great fun preparing for the TCL series, driving the different cars. I was sure I'd be piloting the machine from Bavaria but decided to jump in the VL since nobody else had a V8.
Race 1
A brilliant qualifying lap put Racer69 on pole, but a ripper of a start launched me well into the lead in T1. Controlling the pace from the front, I was keeping an eye on the cushion to 69 at around 4 seconds. Tyres were working well too. Then bam - rfactor crashed a few laps in thanks to the QLD heat. Very disappointed.
Race 2
Starting from the rear thanks to my computer's efforts in race 1, I got a blinder and was P1 into T1. Who knows, I might have been P1 after T1 as well had I pressed the brake firmly enough. As it was, I spotted a patch of grass the council mowers missed and decided to fix things up there and then. So leaving T1 alongside Dano, and passing a stricken Benny by the side of the road, the hunt was on. I'm proud to say I made no real errors for the rest of the race. Despite this, 69 was disappearing into the distance. Then I was excited as I saw the cloud of tyre smoke getting closer with about 5 laps to go. But the race was 3 minutes too short!
Well done racer69 and Dano as well - very consistent.

Qual
Couldn't match my best from the sunday practice session but even if I had of would have not put the car any further up the grid. I had tuned the car for the race and was happy to settle for fourth. Watched the second part of Qual watching some fantastic driving by Racer69 and Webber managing some fantastic times.
Racer69 put it on pole Webber second and Dano third with a great time .6 quicker than my self
Race One
The little BMW is great off the line till about 200metres then everyone closed in. Heading into Turn one I was in second with nissans all over me. The Brakes on the BMW are shocking first lap and I was being carefull not to spin off. (sorry for those behind me a little to carefull and slow) At the end of the back straight had Racer69 beside me and braked a little earlier to let him through and make sure I didn't wreck his race. Unfortunately although over to the far right of the track I think this might have caught out some drivers behind and Dano and Kiwi suddenly were out of my mirrors and 14 secs down as I crossed the line. For race one had chucked Mediums on and the car was able to punch out 1m03.6 - 8 everylap of the race Although not as quick as i could have gone on softs the car was extremely consistent and managed to come home in second.
Race Two
Decided to chuck on Softs this time and see if I could make them last. With Racer69 not being able to see the lights again made and Rfactor putting me as second on the grid behind Racer69 ??? had to pull hard left off the line and nearly got into a fast starting dano. Into turn one puched a lot harder and got up the inside of Dano but the car understeered mid corner and I pushed Dano Wide as he turned in sorry mate. So I continued around the corner and pulled up to wait for dano to let him back through. We had great race for about 5 laps and was all over him in spots until the straight and lost a second every lap. Even if I had managed to get through up the back I didn't know how long it would have lasted. I was using every bit of the Soft tyres and they were getting slippery trying to stay with dano. I had a big moment coming up the hill and lost a heap of group. I then pushed to hard the softs got worse and ended up a good 10 secs back till the finish.
Great night with some new faces pretty happy coming out second in the championship so far considering this is the track that isn't really suited to the bmw looking forward to some tighter ones and not so much symmons plains

Re: Post Calder Park
Many thanks for the warm welcome last night, enjoyed the racing and the general atttitude of the night
Qual - I was generally around the pace of Webber early on, but then had a lap where everything just fell into place whcih put me at the top of the times... i had another crack but couldn't quite replicate it from then on.
Heat 1 - I couldn't see the starting lights so was relying on the mirrors to know when to jump. This unfortunatly mess up dano at the start of the race. I came out of the first corner in 3rd place and thanks to some courteus driving from benny i got underneath him at 3AW and was able to go after Webber. Webber was doing a great job, and i could stay with him but not really get much closer, some laps i would close, the next lap he would get away.... i seemed to be faster in the first sector, while in the final sector around Gloweave corner is where Webber had the measure of me.. it was going to be an interesting race until Webber was disconnected, a real shame. From there i just concentrated on being consistent and not making too many mistakes until the flag.
Heat 2 - I had the same problem again at the start, but managed to get out of turn 1 in first. I selected medium tyres in race 2, and early on i was able to get abit of a gap to Webber, who was keeping me honest with the gap hovering around 2-3 seconds for most of the race. I think at one point got it to 5secs, but late in the race my tyres had seen better days and Webber started to close, but i had just enough in hand. Great driving by you Webber, i couldn't make one mistake in that race otherwise you would have been through
Looking forward to Winton, benny's BMW will be right in the mix, even the Rover as well due to its lightish weight and torquey engine

Re: Post Calder Park
First of all, sorry to Dano, who i hit in both races
Pretty un-eventful night.... the Rover probably isn't going to be competitive... but it's going to be fun pushing it to its limits!
Great to see some new faces...............

had a great time
Sharyn - My first time racing and I really enjoyed it. My goal was to just complete both races without causing any trouble for the other drivers and except for 1 incident in race 1 (yeh, sorry to whoever it was I cut off) I was really happy with how I went. Lot more exhausting than I thought it would be.
Bit nervous about all the corners at Winton, will need lots of pratice so I can get used to cars passing me on the tighter track so if anyone wants to have a pratice also, let me know.

Wow Sharyn didn't realise that was your first race. You looked like a pro the way you steered clear, and you brought it home. Hope you enjoyed the light & sound show whenever I passed you!

Re: Post Calder Park
You did really well sharyn it is hard enough to just get these cars around let alone having to constantly looking in the mirrors watching for cars coming. As you get quicker you will find this happens less and the best thing you can do being lapped is hold your line as the drivers coming up to past you are more experienced and they will find there own way through safely which you did perfectly the other night. Everyone has been where you were on tuesday trying to learn how to drive rfactor and you balanced the learning to get up to speed with not effecting anyones race perfectly.
With winton you'll be fine as the car you have will handle the twist stuff pretty easy. There are track map addon's that I'm not sure if wally has it but they can make it easier to learn tracks you don't as you look at the map a see what is coming next.
Regarding practice I will be practicing Bathurst with the limited time I have till saturday but happy to run a session on Sunday during the day

Re: Post Calder Park
Another good fun night.
Hey no problem Kiwi, they were just racing incidents. But if I were you I'd park that rover in downtown Whangarei and leave the keys in it with the door wide open.
And great racing Sharyn! You did exactly what you should have done by holding your line and letting us find a way around. And the speed of that escort made the nissan seem like a rocketship going past down the straights, that was cool.
Race1
Not such a good race, I rear ended Racer on the grid due to his not seeing the lights. Then Kiwi tapped me and my wheel did it's uncalibrate thing, so I had to sit there see sawing at the wheel to get it to recalibrate. I've had this issue for quite a while but this only the second race it's affected thankfully.
From there I kept an even gap to the guys at the front but that was it. 3rd is still a good result.
Race2
This was much better. I had a battle keeping Benny behind for the first few laps. I was getting ready for a race long battle like this but then I think Benny took a bit much throttle coming on the straight and speared off the track and had his tyre troubles. I kept it calm and clean for the rest of the race. That seems to be the way to drive the skyline, it doesn't like being thrown around. After getting away from Benny I was seeing Webber exit the back straight as I was entering it for quite a few laps. I could see when I was gaining or losing. But in the second half of the race the gap kept creeping up.
I was happy with 3rd again and 3rd overall.
