Speedway racing
Well my mate has just purchased a Speedway car. Will be running in the QLD Series at Brisbane International Speedway / Archerfield in the Ford v Holden.
I will be his main Pit Crew & once i get myself sorted with some race-gear i will have a go once every couple of months or so. We can even run a Passenger as long as they have a NASR licence & the required Race-gear, this could get messy, lol.

Perfect Car wouldn't have to even weld up the door as Im yet to see a XD XE XF with door handles that work.

The XF
Ok here are a couple of pics after we finished the car. My mate Jason debuted the car on Saturday night and drove well and kept it almost damage free. He got 2nd for the rookie class for the night.

Are you offering to come & polish Wally? lol.
If i get all my gear in time i may jump in as passenger next meeting & then hopefully have my debut in a few weeks time. I think it will be piss funny as a passenger.

Re: Speedway racing
After the 1st meeting as lead engineer i decided to have a good look at the car as it didn't appear to handle to well & the driver confirmed this.
So we removed all 4 shocks & they where shot so we replaced them, we cut the FL spring to drop the nose a bit, adjusted the caster, Gave it a bit of positive camber on the FL & a bit more neg on the FR. Changed a couple of tyre treads & sizes around to help with grip & stagger. Adjusted the timing & fuel mixture.
I could see from the first couple of laps what a huge difference it had made & when the driver returned to the pits after race 1 & i asked how the car was he replied " Perfect dont change a thing" he said it has more grip, power, easy to drive, controllable slides, predictable & it naturally wants to turn in to the corner. Last meeting he had to dab the break and wait for it to turn in and this time he held it flat into the corner and without even turning the car turned in and the back stepped out. Guess i should ask for a payrise, lol.
He passed between 6 & 8 cars each 8 lap race & as a rookie he has to start ROF and didn't look like getting lapped this time.
17 cars last night & he finished 6th in the final. I think my work is done.

Well done Jason did you have a go as passenger yet. set of voice activated headsets could be useful for spotting we use them on the bikes they clip on the helmet and have flat speakers to mount in helmet. They have about 800m range providing it is line of site the good ones are about 400 the china ones under 200

Re: Speedway racing
Didn't get to go as passenger yet but my racegear has arrived so i am hoping to jump in with him in about 4 weeks at the Australian Title. I will have to look into if you can use a headset or not. If anyone is needing ragegear send me a pm as i can get SFI rated gear for about $250 cheaper than anywhere else you can get it in Australia. The gear i just got was $490 & at the shops it is around $740 & the cheaper stuff here in Australia of lower standard is $650 for the cheapest.

Thanks mate that is a very nice compliment. I did work on my brother in-laws Super Sedan when i was in my teens so i still recalled some basic things i guess. I did also call a friend who is a very well known chasis builder before i made the changes just to make sure i was doing the right thing & he confirmed i was spot on, he races Late Models these days, Nick Girdlestone.

Cheer's Webber, yeh my only concern is it is my best mates car & i don't want to destroy it on him, but i think once the helmet is on any thoughts will be out the window & my go for it attitude will come out, lol.
That's bad news Milo, i hope things improve for you and if we can do anything for you just yell mate.

Hi Kris, it is called Ford v Holden and is only run at Brisbane International Speedway. It is not a class where you are permitted to run in to each other.
Well i went out as passenger in the heats & the Australian title with my mate & he got 4th in the Aus title it was a buzz as passenger.
Then after a while it was my turn to start the enduro race, Lemans style start. So off we go me running over to the car i leap up onto the bonnet & jump in through the front mesh screen that pivots on hinges to get in, couldn't see my belts to do them up as you cant see them because you cant put your head down to look due to the helmet & neckbrace so had to feel my way, lol. Hit the start button and im off. Never driven the car or driven the track 1st gear onto the track pedal to the floor, 2nd gear pedal to the floor, thought i was going to be a bit of a wussy but the race face was on and off i went passing car after car & never getting passed by anyone, got driven into the wall on about lap 9 on the start finish straight so lifted off ever so slightly and got passed the car through the next turn and left him behind, had a couple of side rubs and 1 guy infront of me was all over the place and out of shape so i tagged his rear right corner and sent him off track slightly as i went sailing buy, as they say Rubbin's Racin, hehe. Our pit stop for the driver change was a bungle so not sure where we ended up but at the end of my 15 lap stint i had us infront of the car that won as i had past him a few laps before the end. It wasn't until about lap 8 i thought shit my left foot is just resting over by the tunnel in the centre of the car maybe i should have it on the brake incase we get a yellow or someone has a big lose infront of me, oops guess i was just too focused on going hard to think of using the brake at any point probably not a habit i should get into ?? I will try and get a video loaded up tonight for you guys. I had a lot of people coming up to me saying your a natural & what a great drive i put on & they couldn't believe it was my first ever race. Bring on the next season i say.
