du Mans Series Points, Issues & Tips:
With the new series fast approaching I thought I’d give a bit of an insight into the mod & some tips to those driving in the series.
1. First things first… This is an Enduro, not a five lap sprint, setup the car and drive it accordingly.
2. The cars within the mod have engines and brakes that wear. In the upgrades section you can select setups that are specifically tuned for longer races; this will be critical for the two longer races. The Bathurst round simulates 24 Hours which the engine and brakes will wear at, not the two hours of the event. Please select an appropriate tuning for your car or you may not finish the race.
3. Additionally, over-revving (red lining) and downshifting at higher than normal revs will shorten the lifespan of your motor. Please utilise a larger radiator, change gearing and/or rev limiter to help engine life too. Brake wear can be lessened by increasing brake ducts, using larger brakes, wiping off speed with down shifting etc.
4. *** There is a known glitch in the mod that will sometimes present a car mismatch on certain tracks (it seems the Porsches suffer this the most). The easiest fix is to try another car of that model, for some reason it doesn’t affect every car of that model, just some??? Not sure what the problem is, but that seems to fix it most times. Hopefully no-one will need to change to another car model.
5. Ensure you can practice or can get a setup from someone else. The setups are generally not interchangeable between models, as each car model is quite different to another.
6. As I stated in #5, each car is different. At the same time, each track has different characteristics in this series. Hopefully this will mean some cars will perform better at some tracks than others, which should give everyone a chance during the series. So, just because your car, say, may not handle the twistiness (is that a word?) of Charade, the faster tracks such as Bathurst & Rouen may suit better.
7. Tyre wear will be critical in this series. Qualifying tyres will only last a handful of laps at best, Mediums will reward smooth drivers/good car setups, and Hard tyres may be a better option depending on the track/driving style/setup.
It sounds like these cars are a bit of a handful. They’re not really. If you set the car up well you can drive them very hard, and they handle so well too. At the same time, an endurance race should test both car and driver, and hopefully this series will be both challenging and enjoyable. I hope these tips and points help everyone who participates so they can get the most out of their cars and avoid people getting frustrated by the mod. So far the GT-2 series we’re having (though a sprint series), has provided excellent close quarters racing. With a larger field this series may be even closer!
Cheers
