Group B RallyCross

And now for something completely different.
We have 2 rounds of Group B Rally. 9th and 16th of October.

These cars are DRM 's dirt cousins. They ran from 1982 to 1986 and saw in the introduction of 4wd to the rally scene with the mighty Audi Quattro.
They were banned for 1987 because too many people were dying. These cars were just too quick!!
But they made awesome rallycross cars.

We'll have 2 tracks each night, I still need to finalise the format and find 1 more track.

Excellent, I was just searching for the brandshatch one.

I also found track pack mentioned on mod page on rfactorcentral, have posted link in comments on mod page as well as given to dano.

These are cool around Bathurst. I managed to get to 1.54 in the RS200...

im sorry maybe it was the standard setup but i tried these and they are terrible i tried all tracks to make sure but still no dice will try it online and see how it goes

I was initially unconvinced by the handling too Pete, but once I'd done some laps around one of the rallycross tracks I was a lot more into it.
I'll try and get setup so I can chuck these up on the server straight after DRM at Calder park.

No...this was around Bathurst itself. And It was either the RS200 or the Peuogot T16 from memory.

I figured you might have cut across at the chase etc.
Yeah I gave it a go, the road noise gets a bit much, I don't think we'll have a round there, too much tarmac.

Those bastards make road noise sitting still!

There are a few dirt tracks availabe for rFactor. Most are used for the Stadium Trucks (Which are fun around tarmac circuits as well!)

Ok the server is up with 4 different tracks. all available in the tuesday dropdown.

I'll work out the details for the format over the weekend.

It's going to be 2 heats and a final at each track with the final being a longer race than the heats. There will be 2 tracks each night.

Ok tonight is our first RallyCross night.

The tracks for tonight are IFS and Blyton. Both are in the track pack.
I can't remember the lap times for each track but the format will roughly be.

2 x 10 lap heats and then a 20 lap final at each track.
The number of laps may vary a bit.

Hell yeah, this was awesome fun. Adding the dirt dimension makes life real interesting.
I haven't been able to use a handbrake, everytime I try it I end up doing a 180.
I'll be back next week even if I was the only one to turn up, I'd be there.

Yes - that was good fun!
And you do need the handbrake for the tight turns.
You just apply the handbrake enough so the back of the car starts sliding, then you nail it into the corner as the 4WD takes over...all with a little bit of opposite lock!

When I was trying the handbrake, it seemed like nothing was happening at first and then by time something did happen it was too late and I'd held on too long.
I'll definitely have to do some handbrake training

If you turn in a little first it will happen very quickly!

I was the same dano I ended up running main 80 % rear drive and powering the slide instead did experiment with the but handbrake but by the time it grabbed the car would go around.

Will try your tips next week

Don't forget rally cross again tonight.
It's the most sideways action you'll get on a week night in October in a leap year.
We'll just tick over all the tracks on offer tonight.
