Something a little different...
Seeing as this is the month of LeMans, I thought we would do a "one-off" endurance race with a difference.
Instead of Sports Cars we will be using the B2 cars from Historix.
Do you use the precision of the Capri, or the brute horsepower of the Corvette!
Mod: Historix - B2 Cars only
Track Version: LeMans 1991 - 1996 (With Chicanes)
Practice Date: 21st June
Race Date: 29th June
Race start time: 7:30pm on the dot!
Race Length: 90 minutes
Qualifying will be on the night taken from the practice results.
Tyre Wear: x2
Fuel x 2
Damage 40%
This will be a day/night/day transition so headlights will need to be used.

Re: Something a little different...
I just did a little test with some of the cars doing an out lap, then a fast lap on the default setups. Here are the times:
68 Corvette (427): 4.30.581
Capri 3.1 RS: 4.32.729
Porsche 3.0: 4.34.777
74 Corvette: 4.35.635
The 68 Corvette is a brute to handle...but fast in a straight line! (You end up leaving two black marks out of most corners!)
I was surprised with the 74 Corvette. It handles quite well and in the right hands would be competitive.

Dammit...I was on a fast lap Dave when I lost connection...
Thanks to those who turned up and practiced...pretty close times! (Except the Corvette!)

Re: Something a little different...
I'm a stupid boy, I thought practice was tonight, Monday
So I would still like to have a run, I would be at the back of the grid any all and every situation.
I would like to run the 74 Vette, less gear changes
If I don't see a response, you will see me on Monday next. (and the river doesn't rise!)

I can jump on again tonight if you want someone to run with, but it will be around 7.30pm - 8.00pm Melbourne time.

Blood* h*ll! Man double mistake!
Thanks I will be doing my best to be there on SUNDAY night hehe...
No problems about a run, I will get on the server when I get the chance and check the car and track password etc. I have a setup from other races in the vette and will adapt that.
cheers,
Bruce. (thanks for noticing the 'slight' mistake)

Re: Something a little different...
Thanks Growler for the tips last night on the server.
I do enjoy driving that 74 Vette on this track, even if I am 10 seconds down on the lead, but close to others
It does have some understeer, but it seems to suit me, but will try with the adjusted bars.
Will jump on tonight and have a run also in the 427 for fun.

Oops! I too thought that last Sunday was race day. I left to do some family stuff and didn't bother coming back because I figured the race would be on, so I just did some GTL offline...

Well jumped in the 427 Vette, found another 10 seconds, not through driving, just HP! So I would like to run #73, at least I will see some of you for some of the time.

Re: Something a little different...
I did look ate the big block Corvette, but its not competitive over a long distance. You only get a maximum of 5 laps a tank whereas the other cars you can get 7 - 8 laps.Flattop wrote:Well jumped in the 427 Vette, found another 10 seconds, not through driving, just HP! At the moment its about 5 seconds faster per lap. That's 25 seconds between pits stops, yet it takes 60 seconds to fill the tank.
It would be interesting though...

Re: Something a little different...
Thanks Growler, yes i noticed the 427 was using 11.5 ltr per lap and the 74 was using 8.5, I hadn't done the arithmetic as yet and I need to balance it against: 'can I keep it on the road for 90 minutes?'
more practice tonight.

This event has been postponed by a week so as not to clash with the final event at Ausfactor.
New race date is the 5th July

Re: Something a little different...
Had a run earlier tonight in both the Ferrari & one of the faster Corvette's.
The Ferrari will go double if not more the distance as the Corvette, but about 10 seconds slower.
Corvette handled better then I was expecting, you do have to be careful coming out of slow corners though, as the rear will flick out !
Although the corvette is fast, Allot of thought will have to go into strategy to do well in the race.

This will be the final AusFactor event they will be holding guys, so it will be great if any of you want to have a bash to celebrate their last night of racing.
Kev has posted the info in the "Events at other Racing Clubs" section and here is the link for that:
https://transtasmanrivals.forumotion.com/t2067-final-ausfactor-event
Postponing will also be great for this race, as it will give people (including myself) a bit more chance to pick a car and practice strategy

Thanks for the heads up on the postponement, may worth changing your home page count down clock.
I need the practice, another week is good but will not be able to make it tonight, final round for XGN's Alfa GTA season...

Re: Something a little different...
Nice pic Growler, nothing like the smell of locked up tyre at Le Mans in the morning!
Thanks for having me, I opted for the less powered Vette due to an extra lap to a tank over the 427. In hindsight it was a good move, as I finished the race with 80% an in practice I was losing 4-5% a lap in the 427... and seeing the attrition, I think this got me to the end, and 2nd!
ds
The early half saw Honda and I fighting it out swapping spots once or twice alap, or hunting the other down. Very exciting, I had thought I would have been hot-lapping by myself down the back.
After my first pit I spotted Honda in the pits and was hoping you were coming out as I arrived, but alas.
Fought hard when I realised Fez was going to lap me in the early morning, and put some great times in a pulled a PB.
The inevitable happened and Fez overtook a but I noticed a wisp of smoke turning to a large amount of smoke, equivalent to Growler's wheel spinning out of turns!
Nice work pushing Fez to the finish, lucky 3 made it home.
Cheers, and I am hoping to hop on board with my trusting Rover V8.

Re: Something a little different...
I enjoyed the early laps because there were a couple of people near me, but then I made a mistake and had a big off and they got away, so I was driving around by myself in last place and then the engine blew and I don't know what I did to cause it. Anyway, the night was over just like that.
Maybe we should have more, shorter races when we run cars with high attrition rates, to keep everyone involved?
