Re: Legends of Bathurst - Round 9: Bathurst (Mar 20th) - FINAL
The grand finale is here !!
And there's no better way then to finish a series with an Enduro at the Mountain !
Its going to be a very interesting round with a race length we haven't yet done in this series.
Strategy will be the key here & for some getting the engine to the end of the race.
Who will be King of the Mountain ?
Once this round is done, everyone will drop there worst round & the bonus points will be added to those that have earned them throughout the series. Who will come out on top ?
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE on the night !!

Well, I was bloody enjoying that race until my net dropped out! Of all the times to do it...
Congrats to DV on the win, seemed like we were cruising around together
most of the time, even in the pits!
Definitely wouldn't mind running these again some time though, especially at The Mountain.
Got unfinished business there now!

Yeah we had the exact same strategy and our lap times seemed fairly close, it was a shame to see you drop out. It was a crazy close finish, I was pretty happy to see 1st pop up when I crossed the line.

Bad luck Dave
You were doing so well until then & it would have been good to see you battling it out with DV_8 & WORM.

Yep it sure was
Well done DV_8 !!
It didn't come easy & you were probably lucky I didn't hold you up any, because once you got on the back of me at the end of conrod, I over cooked it coming out of the chase, got onto the ripple strip and it sent me sideways lol.
I hoping to keep a enough gap on the straights as I knew I had pace over the top of the mountain.
For me, I took it a little to easy in the start of first stint, while also battling it out with Darren & Stevo.
I was loosing at least 1sec per lap on average to what my practice times were.
My engine started puffing smoke of at points of tracks towards the end of the first stint, so I lowered the grill tape 1 click at the pit stop.
Well I'm now glad I did that !
By lowering the grill tape (which kept the engine a little cooler) I think I found the sweet spot engine temp, was like the engine had a little more power at optimum temp ?
Anyway I worked out WORM & Stevo were on the same strategy as I was, as they pitted the same lap (Lap 12) as I did.
I didn't need much fuel at the first stop, due to not using the whole tank and I also short filled it to get another 11 laps done. So that put me in front of both WORM & Stevo, but WORM managed to pull me back in before the second stop.
Again short filled the tank to get another 11 laps, but this time the tank was empty coming in the pits, so a few more seconds of fuel was needed.
Came out in front of WORM again by about 2-3sec & it was on !
It was like qually laps every lap after that, WORM managed to get by pretty easily but I was hopeful that his tyres would go off & I would pull him back in as the laps were counting down.
I wasn't even thinking what was behind until WORM said that DV_8 was coming !
Then the mistakes started creeping in !
I think I took to much out of the tyres trying to keep up with WORM & before I knew it DV_8 was on my rear & past due to my mistake out of the chase.
After that I accepted 3rd place and just cruised the Charger home.
I actually worked out the points between Darren & I, after the Mallala round.
The only chance I had to win the champ was to win here at Bathurst & Darren to come 5th or lower.
I knew Darren would struggle here a little due to the extra 100kg he had on board, so I thought it was very possible he would finish 5th or lower.
Once Dave lost connection & Stevo quite due to a crash ?
I knew Darren had it sewn up as that allowed him to come home in 4th.
It all didn't matter anyway due to me not winning
So a big congrads to Darren for winning the Championship !!
Well done and well deserved mate !!
I tell you what though if DV_8 had of turned up to Mallala, it would have been very close in the points tally & I think he may have stole it from Darren !! only just though !

Well done Darrin, so glad I told you about this champ.
Your prize for the win is you get to drive the Mini next champ.

I really enjoyed the series. We seemed to have a good mix off cars and drivers that got up for a win. The HQ was really good, I'm surprised no one else picked it.
