So now to the penultimate round of the WTCC, the Wellington street circuit.

A great little track, and a regular Group A fixture on the international calendar between 1985 and 1992.

If a BMW or Merc is going to pounce, it will be here. The track is tight and twisty, and will punish the cars over a race distance. Looking forward to see how we all go with what is a new rfactor track Smile

Here is a link to the track download

wow, is all i can say.

this place is insane. there is NO chance to get a rhythm, anywhere. Walls are jumping out at you, corners are tightening up all over the place, fences look like roads.

i havent even set a time yet, or if i have i didnt get a chance to look at it, cos i was too busy trying not to slam into a wall.

The angles are crazy, lol.

I feel very sorry for the people driving commodores. its hell, even in an M3.

Gonna be a very interesting race, looking forward to this one, but not, at the same time haha.

Gonna go race the AI for a bit, until the prac server comes online.

Will a dodgy picture of the winning Francevic/Delcourt car from that race give some inspiration Smile ? (i'd give you a screengrab from the TV footage of the race, but am away from my DVDs at the moment)

this track is friggen awsome. i llove it, started out with a huge plume of smoke almost hitting a barrier then i got lost thinking the track went right instead of left..

anyway got a few good times in thought a 1 29.8 was awsome, then i got a 1 28.7 was happy with that. then a 127.7 and thought thatd be the benchmark... till groupc came in and beat it by .500.

went back out a few times and smashed out a 127 flat.

i hate this track.

thats what i said when i first started doing laps. now though, i have gotten used to the layout and know where the hell im going, its quite a fun, tricky course.

im nowhere near the times Dan mentioned, best i have managed is 1:32.056. But Mozza got a 1:29.xxx so i should be aiming for that. My class and all. Very Happy

Gonna be a great race i think, if people can keep their cars off the metal stuff. Very unforgiving if you clip a barrier. Or get shunted into one Rolling Eyes

Just watched the wtcc round.....liked the fact that one of the volvos went headlong into the barriers and came off looking no different. The barrier had a lovely curve in it though Wink Volvo paid for it in the end unfortunately...

I knew this track would be tough. I didn't know it would be this tough. After several practice sessions, I am still yet to complete a lap with out hitting a barrier! I probably won't be able to make it on Sunday night, and that might be a good thing. Laughing

I struggled to get a 1:32.xxx last night.

The only thing I'm happy about with this track is that I don't have to race on it in real life
as I wouldn't be able to afford all the bills from the crash repairers! Rolling Eyes

Lesson 1. Stay away from the concrete barriers & maybe a decent finish will happen.
I hope Wally makes it a no restarts meeting, just to keep everyone on their toes! hehehehe lol!

Yep gonna need to be very carefull around the first four or five turns.

Once the first lap has spread the cars a bit, should be all good.

Gonna be interesting to see if the barriers claim any victims on race night.

Hope we can all make it around without breaking anything.

(Although ill happily take yur place if you come to grief.lol)

They struggled to stop for the T1 in real life.....and when they did it was a complete traffic jam. Heaven help us if they couldn't do it!!!

Managed a 1:29.4 yesterday after about 18 laps. Cobbled together a sort of working setup....not really sure on that. Haven't managed to set a time with it yet though as I keep hitting the wall - hence the "sort of working"....

been testing a few cars, holden, rolla, merc. ive noticed that the more powerfull heavy cars tend to get around this track a tad easier. they go voer bumps alot beter and arnt as twitchy. and on this track a twitch = barrier. but that may just be my driving style.

Are people using a tall 1st gear or a short one with a longer 2nd? I'm finding I use first for 5 corners, which is a lot especially since I don't think I've used it on any other track during a race lap....wondering which would be better. Guess it depends on each car, but I have no idea Smile

Just had another practice and managed a 1:28.6. Very Happy Getting there, but more than once my car ended up back in the pits looking a lot more curvy (in the wrong way) than any 240 should ever be. confused

Got massively frustrated last night at my inability to be able to turn consistent times over the length of a stint.
So frustrated, that I decided to push Shayns M3 up the pitlane, between the barriers and into the ocean... Then ram it at 200kph, and push it up behind T1, then around T1 and down the road that runs parallel to the back straight.
Took me a long, long time to do it, and it make a damn big mess of his M3, but yeah. That'll teach him to leave it in the pits.

In the background you can see the pitlane building... LOL. I should've zoomed in on the M3, cos it was fairly mashed up :-D

Just wondering how many laps we're gonna do around here?

I think I've got it figured to about 9 for the sprint race and 21/22 for the feature...?

i was thinking the same thing Obz, then i changed some lines, and some braking points.

I was stuck at 1:32 for aaaages, did prolly 70 laps tonight, best i got was 1:30.5, so shaving 2 seconds off isnt far away.

That McMullen guy did a 1:28.6 in the M3.

If i could get a 1:29 mid, that might be enough to get me off the bottom in Qualifying. lol.

What are the points for class2 results?
Im 71 behind Wally, can i over take him in two races?

Hm, i have a bad feeling its only 25 points for a win.

Anyone?

Shayn - You're 71 points behind Wally with 4 races left (2 @ Wellington, 2 @ Fuji). I'm assuming Fuji will be a sprint/feature. That leaves a maximum of 100 points (25/race win) left.

So essentially you need to win the last 4 races (in class 2), and Wally I think probably needs to DNF 3 of them.

I'm only 50 points behind you too, keep in mind Very Happy

Did a few laps in the BMW managed a 1.31.3 then did some laps in other cars to see what they were like, the BMW is the easiest for me to lap consistently but it wouldn't be at a competive pace that I saw guys running last night

After this run made a few calls and organized the tafe repair apprentices to be onsite on the night Laughing

I've managed to get a 1m 27.9s out of an M3, through persistence lol... as posted above if anyone else wants setup for it i'm happy to pass it on (how did you find it Shayn?)

Made some headway with the Supra... i think the thing to this track though will be accuracy and keeping it off the walls, there are certainly enough of them to do some damage, it will be a very interesting pair of races, and just like the real thing, likely a race of attrition Smile

yer im using it for that 1:30 Racer, although i did change a couple things.

but yer, i dunno if im going faster cos ive done more laps, or your setup, maybe ill try my old setup with the new lines and braking points.

but yeah, its good, no freakin idea how it is possible to get a 1:27, mind boggling. Lol, the car is at its limits, pushing every where, gettin on the gas so early.

Just beyond me. Maybe im missing something, thats slowing me 2.5 seconds lol.

It's really gonna more a case of who can stay off the walls.

So, i did ALOT of laps tonight, with Wobbly Billy, and Berlsy.

Managed to get a best time of 1:29.5 , still a bit off the pace lol, but its getting there.

Me and Berlsy had a some close racing for about 15 laps at the end, was great. Hope to have some battles during the race like that. Im sure everyone will have some company.

Just did two ai races, of 12 laps each to get some more race practice in, but it was kinda lame cos the 14 M3s i was up against, were only doing 1:30-31's.

I made the race time at 4am, night races are awesome, really makes you learn the track. Epic fun following sets of tail lights around the track. Well, until i took 1st place.

Maybe some twilight races could be had next season. Make it so they finish just when the sun is going down.

You can do the "AI Learning" to speed the AI up abit, it also improves their racing lines etc... Thats what i've done for when i race offline.

It's frustrating practicing with thr Group 1 guys however as I always feel like I'm way off the pace. In hindsight, perhaps that is actually a good thing...
