Final Round - Rd11 - Mt Fuji
Onto the final round of the 1987 World Touring Car Championship, Mt Fuji in Japan
Its a close points battle at the top, and it should be a great rounding out to a really fun championship , i've loved every second of it
I'm assuming (but not totally sure, cue Wally ) that we are using the virtua_LM version of Mt Fuji, with the 1990 layout (as this is what was used for the 1987 race)
It will be a horsepower circuit, but the tight corners and also the long high speed corners will hurt tyres and might give some others a chance.
I have never seen any video footage from the actual 1987 Fuji-Intertec 500 WTCC round, and very few photographs from the race (my avatar is one of the rare pictures from the 1987 Mt Fuji WTCC race though)
The 1986 Fuji Intertec 500 though is on Youtube, so here is the start of the race to get a look at what the track is like (and marvel at how competitive Brock and Grice are here)

Not sure, but I think the vituaLM 1982 version might be the layout they used in 1987.
anyway, I'll be glad if we don't go anywhere near that god awful 2005 castration of a once great circuit.

I just checked, its the 1990 one that was used in '87.
The 1982 layout doesn't use the final chicane, whereas the 1990 layout does.
Its such a shame that the track was butchered for the sake of holding just two Grand Prix's....

Couldn't find a server so I turned a handful of offline laps at Virtua LM Fuji 1990. Like Wellington another very well made track. It is a Hall of Famer.
Best time in Commo so far is a 36.1.
Good news commo drivers, there is an endless main straight so if we perfect the cornering, the car will be strong here. approach me for a setup when I do one, but top gear ratio = 2.9 to max it on the MEGA main straight. Couple different ways to get there.

Oh, 36.1. Is that all?
Psht. You need to go faster, Merc didnt get out of 3rd to do that...
Oh wait, you mean 1:36.1
Right. Move along, nothing to see here

Re: Final Round - Rd11 - Mt Fuji
Haha. What's the Merc doing? Can't see it doing too well on the straight, you'll have to be daredevil in the corners.
The track is very grippy, wide, and open, so I reckon there'll be some fantastic battles. Dan_gtsx, better start practice!

Dunno bro.
I dont usually run offline, for some reason I find a setup I do offline is useless online.... So I'll wait till the server gets slapped up. Expect probably 3-4 seconds off though. That straight will slaughter anyone who doesnt have a v8 or a turbo (alfa excepted!!).
Should be some good Group 2 racing here too, a bit like Silverstone. Drafting down the straight then throw a banzai up the inside into T1. Can't wait, should be a ripper of a final round!

Very well made track... feels alot like Dijon in a way, dirty long front straight, with a nice flowing in field section... Really dunno how the Sierra will fair here, best lap so far is a 1:34.565

whoa. what a track. very well done. even the camera angles on the replays are impressive.
followed Dans good old advice, and doing some nanna lapping to get familiar with the track.
done about 10 timed laps in the M3, on stock setup, just lengthened 5th gear a little to make it to the end of the straight.
managed a 1:39.2 so far.
gonna be a great final race.

Re: Final Round - Rd11 - Mt Fuji
i like this track, although i think webber will get fastest time here, as the sierra gets around 260 down the main straight, i can imagine the commo will hit 280 or something stupid.
tried a few laps and got a 1 34.5 still tryign to work out a good linefor the last turn, and the right hand sweeper after the first few corners
and yeh track is like dijon but my dijon setup is shite here!
believe it or not im using my wellington setup

Re: Final Round - Rd11 - Mt Fuji
So if an early commo time is 34's then I should be aiming for around 37's-high 36's.
Hm I should be able to manage that in the little old M3.
I had a look around for any other tracks made by virtua_LM, but came across nothing.
Shame, cos they seem like a good maker/converter.
The speeds the commos and sierra will reach here will be huge and hence should dominate.
Seems like a good enough track for it to be a super final round though.
Hope for some fights, lonely races kinda suck. Lol

Fairly sure they made a Mid Ohio, Sebring and Rouen les Esserts Shayn.
Mid Ohio, I think is as good, if not better than Fuji... Sebring is pretty good too, although I cannot remember Rouen, not even sure why I've got it in my tracks folder, cos I dont recall running on it.

Rouen is very good, it uses public roads and winds through a forest.
VitrtuaLM are very good, let's not forget what the LM stans for.

They did a fantastic version of Le Mans 1977 & 1979 as well.
I think it was them who did the DRM mod as well

Server is dumping people left right and centre tonight. Probably every 20 mins or so, everyone gets dropped out... (I get connection lost, not sure about anyone else)

Re: Final Round - Rd11 - Mt Fuji
jumped on tonite for a first look at this track and gotta say love it......my style of circuit, very mid ohio in some ways, coudnt do much more than 2 laps tho everytime b4 getting booted, not sure whats happening there, webber........ur playing possum mate 36.1????? with the handbrake on maybe lol
tried offline for a few laps and got a 34.9 deffo with more to come and jumped back on server with same setup and did a messy lap at 35.5, so i predict mid to low 34 quali 4 group 2 pole or maybe an alfa superlap in the 33's
biggest problems i see are left hand tyres overheating which i was getting pretty quick, also group 2's are gonna have to gear the cars spot on for the fuel load to get up the start finish hill
love this track cant wait

yea i spose in the group 1's there is a lot of turns here that give u the option of going sideways under power rather than forwards
i am suprised tho so far with times as i would have expected that big straight to make a huge time difference between classes, no doubt given a bit more time the C1 stuff will bugger off into the distance time wise

Re: Final Round - Rd11 - Mt Fuji
Like you Wobbs, I'm expecting the Mercs and M3's to be sitting in the draft of the Alfa, rather than going past it down the straight. It was smashing us at Bathurst, and I can't see it doing anything different here.
Guest- Guest
Re: Final Round - Rd11 - Mt Fuji
Man, I'd be stoked if I could be close enough to an alfa to hitch a ride down the straight.
I did a 1m37.4 early last nite, and was fair happy to be progressing until Wobbly told me he got a 34.9in the same car. Lol.
But seeing as its the last round, and the best I can do in class2 is second, I'm not gonna worry too muchabout qualy times, and just focus on consistent laps. Which I have been convinced is more impotant than a miracle qualy time that I can't possibly sustain over 20 odd laps.
Hopefully this will help me next season too.
Is it sunday yet?

Quality decision making there Shayn. I never bother too much with qually (because of time limitations mainly),
and prefer to concentrate on a good set up that'll be kind on the car over the race distance rather than try to
find an extra second on qually for a set up that is unusable in the race. Concentrating on one setup (or may
having a couple of variant race setups to test) will help you in the race as you'll be looking more at things like
gearing, suspension, braking & tyre wear, so you'll get a better understanding of how your car functions as a whole.
You'll probably notice after a while that your race pace will be pretty much the same as your qually pace now because of it.

Wise words from Obbzy. Though you should always be able to dump fuel and tyres from your race setup and cut off a few tenths.

Lol, also need to remember that 3 seconds is only a few car lengths down the road.
Sometimes it seems like its half a lap away.
Gonna get on tonight and do some AI races to bump up the actual pace. Might come on the prac server for a bit also.

hard track to get used to, keep missing braking points and my rear end is always trying to overtake me. best i've done is 1.34.8, bloody wrapped with that.
just downloaded a track called transfagarasan from rfactor central. bloody awesome fun especially the downhill version, pretty sure they had this on top gear once. give it a go, you won't regret it.

that is a pretty sweet track. ran it a couple times.
well, i cant get under 1:37 in the M3.
So i tried going for consistency, i did about 64 1:37s pretty consistently.
im doing it wrong. Wobbly will know what to do.

Re: Final Round - Rd11 - Mt Fuji
hey thats great shayn, if you can run 1.37's consistently over a full stint then u aint to far off mate, I ran a full fuel stint last nite and was hitting high 35's to mid 36's in the session, and did a few 39's when i went straight on a couple of times ....so ur 37's without binning it would have meant ud have been up my chuff so goes to show 34's in "quali" trim mean nothing really mate. I was getting a lot of heat through my front left tyre which i can just keep under control through a stint but this track is one ur deffo gonna need tyres in the pitstop i recon.
Anyway keep focusing on staying on and keeping a pace u can maintain and the races will eventually come to you, if that makes sense lol,
poor old mozz was struggling with the merc it looked like a complete pig here, on a race run his times were well off the M3 so we might get one back on the old bugger

haha yeah I tried that the other night Berlz. Used the Historic Rally Car mod - Group B Audi powah! Very cool, although I probably need to turn my graphics down a bit to run it. I'm also keen to try the Targa Florio circuit.... That's apparently a damn good one too!

got on late tonight and after about 20 laps i did a best time of 1:36.245, which i am very happy with lol.
amazing what a break and a fresh mind can do. couldnt get under 37 last nite after about 80 laps.
if i can manage high 1:36s during the race by the time sunday comes, i should be able to do ok.
(thanks wobbz, im writing down everything you say.)

Got the M3 down to 1:35.821!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On Meds with 50Lt of fuel on board. And doing mid 1:36s pretty easily now.
So happy to make it into 35's, and its not even in quali stance. I wonder what i could get on Softs with 5Lt of fuel on.
but its late. try again tmro.
See!

I don't mind either way.
The '88 format would be good to see how it goes.
If everybody has time, should be great.

x5 fuel so webber has to tow his local BP with him and you gotta deal!!!!!!
Nah I'm not particularly worried either Wal.
Shayn - good work on the times, it's all coming together for your all-out assault in a Group 1 car next season. Well done broski.

Both formats sound good,
but the concern is with only one race, there are only half the championship points on offer.
If Group C were to agree to make it a non championship round, then I'm keen to trial the 88 ATCC format. But otherwise it's a bit harsh on him if he wants to try to retake the championship lead.

Re: Final Round - Rd11 - Mt Fuji
Thats fair enough. If theres a chance for a lead change or someone to take the championship then leave it at two races.
I'd be a little annoyed if i was a chance to win (lol ) and the format changed and made it impossible.
I vote for leaving it as is.

I second leaving the status quo.
It would be unfair otherwise.
If I make it tonight it'll be interesting. No setup & no practice.
Lookout!
