pre oran enduro
laps has been increased to 40 laps, co drivers allowed
David and Shazam with back problems, maybe you two can discuss joining forces in the corrolla... you will both need the same car setup
everyone else if you can get someone from outa league to run with you would be great to keep numbers up.

Re: pre oran enduro
Increased to 40?
I thought it was 75 minutes? Or have i got that mixed up?
I know its longer than normal but, 48 minute race is hardly endurance.
Just saying.
Dont people like longer races anymore?

Re: pre oran enduro
Shayn, i'm thinking the race distance is scaled so that each of the enduro's get abit longer, with Oran being 40 laps, Sandown 53, and and Bathurst 53 laps also (just a longer track)
In 1988 the Oran Park enduro was 250km, Sandown 500km and Bathurst 1000km... i think this gives a realistic 'scale' to all three events.
I'm looking forward to our version of the 'Pepsi 250', i think the x3 tyres & fuel will really make strategy interesting over the next three races. Also it will be a good to have a second crack at the track.
The 250km enduro from Oran Park was a regular event from 1978 - 1989 (extended to 300km in 1989), however none of the Group A enduro's from Oran Park are on line, so we'll make do with the 1982 edition of the Oran Park 250, the "Perrier Gold Cup".

Re: pre oran enduro
Fair enough.
Im just a fan of the long distance races with 3 pit stops etc.
But I think getting more people to come along is the most important thing, and not everybody can make hour+ races.
The long Bathurst race will make up for it tho, so all good.
I wasn't sure abt returning to Oran straight away for this round but after sunday night's race, I'm really looking forward to some more good battles there.

thanx luke
originally they were all 1/3 of real race.. just upped oran a little because it is a good online racing venue.
Bathurst will at least be 2 hours .

Yer im all for it. Looking forward to the first enduro.
Im not as bigger real life touring car fans as you guys, so forgive some ignorances.
I downloaded TCL a year ago cos it had R31s in it.
Im 28 so in 1990 i was 7 years old, so yeah, kinda missed all the classic stuff.

You missed the best class of racing ever. I was 20 when Richo won the '90 ATCC in an R31. I loved the ATCC back then and couldn't get enough of it.

Re: pre oran enduro
Unfortunately, cars like the Sierra and then Godzilla(Nissan GTR) dominated most of the time over the Commodore and there was no V8 Falcon racing. The only thing close was a 302 powered mustang which wasn't successful here. At one stage if you didn't have a Sierra you couldn't win, which lead to a lot of Sierra's including Peter Brock.
Apart from a couple of highlights, Grice/Percy 1990 Bathurst and Longhurst's mighty efforts at a couple of rounds in the little M3. Sierra's dominated until godzilla come along which had 620 odd horsepower and all wheel drive.(all wheel steer was disconnected in race car, too heavy from memory).
Godzilla's horsepower was shaved considerably but was still dominant in it's second year here in australia.
Ford reintroduced the V8 back to the falcon and because of people getting bored with the Sierra/GTR fest, V8 supercars was born.
This has been a very shortened reader's digest of it all but hopefully if you are too young to remember, that's a simplified version of my interpritation of what happened to GroupA here.

Re: pre oran enduro
all that being said, I think it is overdue for a major change again, not just cars of the future but maybe bring more of a production car feel back into it. the old saying what wins on sunday you can buy on monday.
V8 supercars have long been too genetic for my liking and apart from engines they are virtually the same car(ford and holden). Your not really following a make anymore it's more like a team. a great example is when vodafone team went from ford to holden, dominant in ford one year and again in holden the next. Cars of the future will make it even more genetic.
Honestly, I don't know how much longer it will go on before once again the majority get's bored. Maybe GT or production cars will then get the following they deserve.

You haven't really put much thought into this have you wally.
Lol how did you come up with all of that?
I'd deff watch a series like that. Just hard to see people being able to do it money wise.
And I doubt you'd get the same interest as the taxis have. Money would have to be the biggest hurdle I'd say.

Re: pre oran enduro
Totally agree with you Wal
this car of the future, everything equal, etc. bs is going in completely the wrong direction,
I appreciate it can be hard to have an even set of regulations with different manufacturers, as you get some people making cars specifically to dominate the series and that kind of ruins it for the other manufacturers.
What's not hard is keeping it simple. Why not have the V8 supercars with:
-manual gearbox (driver skill brought back in)
-big slabs of power (already have these thankfully)
-not predetermined pit strategies (like you can choose which tyre to go with, and no compulsory pit stops -- like in the 1980s etc)

Re: pre oran enduro
did i mention that maybe the v8's are now too fast and have outgrown our regular circuits!!!!
now instead maybe they'll have to try go overseas or make special street tracks.....oops my bad, too late.
what webber said + reduce downforce= make the drivers have to drive them like they used to instead of flat out sprint races.
make sure they keep qld raceway, wannerroo, sandown etc etc etc

Re: pre oran enduro
Group A was probably my fave era, my first memories of life involve the Shell Sierra's dominating 1988, probably why i'm a lifelong Dick Johnson fan... i was so dedicated i reserved #17 for little athletics when i was young lol
Even when the Sierra's were dominating it wasn't too bad, every Sierra was different (Johnson built his own, Brock used Rouse Sierra's, Moffat had Eggenbergers with the lot, Longhurst tapped into Wolf technology etc...), and the Nissans and Commodore's were always nipping at their heels.... indeed the Commodore's were as good as a Sierra by the end of 1990, and into 91 and 92.
Even 1992, the last year of Group A had great racing, all of the main manufacturers won races (Holden, Ford, Nissan, BMW), and despite the GTR winning the championship, John Bowe won the most races.
Times change though i guess
You bring up a good point with your last line there Shayn... the key to the success of any tip-top category in Australia is the big names, the HRTs, T8's, DJR's, Craig Lowndes etc... You need Fords and Holdens to be in the field, but not necessarily the only makes, but is the 'stars' that bring the fans (thats probably the only thing i've ever agreed with Mr Cochrane about...)
If they all fronted up in proddies for next years Clipsal 500, the crowds would be as big as ever.

ahhh the old Sandown, now i'm misting up
I like the modern Sandown, and even didn't mind the GP circuit with the inner hairpins, but the original was a real 'balls out' place

Billybob if your trying to use wireless it won't work.
buy a 10 metre cable if this is the case.
It is a crying shame to see so much talent not being able to finish races.

Re: pre oran enduro
Just a quick note on another subject.
I fully understand why some people that race on Saturdays and Tuesdays can't make Sunday nights.
I myself have a life other than on the computer as well.
In an ideal world I would love to run tuesday night here, Wednesdays at XGN, Saturdays in the V8's and Sunday nights.
If it was indeed possible I would probably overdo it and get sick of rfactor itself.
I am not upset with anyone that can't make it and fully understand why they can't.
I don't want to appear to be pressuring people to come race Sunday.. You come when you get the time and you come to have FUN, not because you feel you should.
Just thought i would get that off my chest.

Re: pre oran enduro
i doubt anyone feels pressured to come to races.
i squeeze rFactor in wherever i can, so i usually end up making most of the races.
we all get that/appreciate that you are just trying to get more numbers. which is what makes the races better.
i think if people apologize for not showing up its because they really wanna be there, but maybe more important things are happening.

G'day All,
Won't be able to run on Sunday night, it is our first wedding anniversary and I fear that not spending that evening with my wife may lead to a permanent cessation of my Rfactor activities! Good luck to everybody, and have a great race.
On another note I'd like to thank everyone for making me feel welcome over the past few months. I joined in half way through the season and still have a lot of room for improvement on the driving front. I've had a couple of great battles, whilst at the same time trying to stay out of the way when I'm off the pace. I've found drivers on this server to be extremely courteous and helpful. In the time I've been racing here I don't think I've seen a single incident resulting in argument, which is pretty rare in online racing.
Thanks to all!
Damo.

Damo.
A pleasure to have you on the track with us Damo, your doing a great job and improving all the time
Enjoy your wedding anniversary and see you on the track soon

Damn Understeer!!
R31 is a complete dog. You only notice it after driving another mod.
The brakes are terrible also.
Why does down-shifting slow the car down faster than standing on the brakes?

Re: pre oran enduro
lol yep. i know the v8s are a completely different car and etc etc blah blah.
but this skyline is so doughy and bogged down.
its like the boot is full of sand or something. no wonder m3s overtake it in corners.
its terrible lol.
but i still love it. i guess.

Lol shayn. It's a 31, a boat at the best of times, you should know that lol.
I'll be watching these enduro races from afar with interest, as they've always been better to me than short sprints, especially with a good field like you guys have here. Can't wait to get back, hopefully for the next Sunday series, I do miss racing with you guys (and girls).
Good luck tonight gents!

Re: pre oran enduro
Hey all, I'm sad to say I'll be missing out on tonight, which might also put paid to the championship.
The entire crew in my uni degree are hitting the town here in Brissy and for once, racing will have to take a back seat.
Looking forward to Bathurst in a couple of weeks, will be a fittingly epic sendoff to this Sierra. I'm gonna miss the power!

Re: pre oran enduro
Screen froze, Hope no-one got taken out by it????
Might try again next week. Maybe I 'll try and do more than
the 3 minutes & 9 seconds (no, really that was it) of practice 1st
so I can at least be somewhat competitive!
