2011 Historic Group A Touring Car Championship
I ended up 12th or 13th or somewhere in TTR's 1988 ATCC and i was OK with that, until i got the final results for this year's Group A Touring Car Championship.
I finished 2nd outright in my Bob Holden Motors AE86 Corolla Sprinter! I am absolutely stoked, this is far, far beyond what i was hoping for at the start of the year, when we were madly scrambling to complete a 3 1/2 year restoration.
Shayn, you'll be pleased to know that a Gibson HR31 Skyline won the Championship. A JPS BMW M3 finished third, beating a Schnitzer M3 by just one point. I'm in good company!
How did I do it, you ask? I entered every round, I started every race and i only DNF'd three times in a whole season of 28 races. I reckon the same thing might work here.

Great Job David Congratulations
I'm Hoping to get down to Phillip Island Classic next march and as a fan of these cars and class wanted to thank you for spending your hard earned cash plus the amount of time out of working to bring these cars back to the track over the last year on a regualar basis.
I hope it has given you the enjoyment for all your hard work you have put in. I can assure you ten's of thousands are thankfull for people like yourself having brought these cars back to life and then risk loosing what I'm sure is one of your most valued possessions every session you take them out to play and share with the motorsport community .

apparantly the 2 mercedes 190e's race under martin cigarettes skins at bathurst 86 from memory are up for sale.
100grand will get you both cars and spares but are not currently running martin livery.
They actually started out as dtm cars and the first time at Bathurst they were deeply muzzled for being really loud.
apparantly they were so noisy they could completely drown out moffats rx7 at it's worst.
These cars will be eligible for this class of racing..

Yeah the rules in the DTM at the time, while Group A based, had a few slight differences (the Wolf Sierra that Robbie Francevic tried to run in the 1988 ATCC ran into similiar problems)Wally26 wrote:They actually started out as dtm cars and the first time at Bathurst they were deeply muzzled for being really loud.
here is the link to them
http://www.ecurieinvestments.com.au/group-mercedes-190e-23?utm_source=Chrome+Club&utm_campaign=6f1452e841-December_2011_Newsletter11_23_2011&utm_medium=email
looks like they are in the 'Super Touring' spec that Phil Ward converted them (or one at least, he had the third 190 as well) to in 1994. They'd probably need abit of work to make them Group A spec again.
Interesting thing about the cars, when they raced at Bathurst in 1986, the team was run by Dr Helmut Marko.

Thanks Ben, very kind words.
Yes it takes a lot of time and a lot of money to run these cars, but we really do enjoy it and I'm glad that so many people are keen to see these cars, where they belong, doing what they are meant to do.
