1 year old Monitor... HELP!!
So i seem to have all the computer drama's happening all at once, pretty much over it all now!!
I go to turn my computer on, go watch some TV, come back to do some practice online... The monitor appears to be in sleep mode but doesn't wake up.
I have a Samsung SyncMaster SA300, it is connected to my PC via a RGB cable. Its like the monitor can't get out of sleep mode, a total black screen... Any suggestions guys??
I've never had a drama with this monitor at all since i got it, around a year ago...
Cheers,
Brent (GrpC)

Re: 1 year old Monitor... HELP!!
Is it windows 7?
Windows 7 has issues coming out of sleep mode at times staying on black screen.
If you single push the power button it should shut down the computer safely and then try start up again. If it works I can't remember the permanent fix but will look it up if you need.
If it doesn't turn off you pretty much only have the option to hold the power button till it turns off. Hopefully works on reboot hopefully all good from There and is only windows 7 glitch. if not unplug power from monitor let it discharge it's energy and pray

I run Windows XP Benny... I haven't had my computer on since last Thurs... Turned it on, went n watched TV for about 1hr then went back & its just asleep. Would it be worth trying to connect the monitor via the DVI port to my computer DVI port?? Or should i unplug it now let it discharge over night n try again in the morning?

Have you turned computer back off now or is it still on
Some of those dell things you just need to pull power outbid computer to get it to turn off in these situations.
Need to determine monitor or computer problem hence turning the computer off. a lot of people think it is a monitor when it actual is computer like power supply.
Can you plug a laptop or something else into monitor to test it.
One option turn power off to both and at the wall for 3 to 5 mins and see if it then fires up
Happy to send you my ph number and you can ring me tomorrow and we can help you with all these options and more

Benny's on the money. Sounds suspicious of a problem with your graphics card. Does the computer make the normal beeps while it's turning on, or different ones? Do you have a separate video output on the back of your computer (from the motherboard, not the graphics card) or a spare card to try?

Re: 1 year old Monitor... HELP!!
I've turned it off for now...
Sounding like a total rookie, how do i connect a laptop to the monitor...
I assume i'm going to need some sort of adaptor cable as my monitor has RGB & DVI and the laptop only has USB or HDMI ports...
Think i'll leave it for tonight and retry again tomorrow Benny... Might take you up on the Ph offer... flick you some cash etc etc. Thanks for the prompt reply mate, much appreciated!!

Anything like this, in the big cluster of sockets? If so try it. Just to see if the monitor's working. If it works, you might need a new video card.
Funnily enough GCA, my video cards are having serious issues at the moment and I'm working flat out to figure out the problem to race in the F1 tomorrow!! Think it might be some motherboard damage.
