Hi all,

Just wondering is some of you are still having the "terrain.tdf mismatch" coming up on Winton ?

If so, I would first try starting a fresh install of RFactor, then install the mod & track and try again.
If you are still having trouble we will go to the another version of Winton.

i'm still having the terrain.tdf mismatch but i've done a bit of looking into and from what i can gather, if someone who has it working sends me their terrain.tdf file, it should work if i put that in my locations folder

Porsche GT3 Round 10 - Winton Empty Re: Porsche GT3 Round 10 - Winton

Post by Bracko76 8/8/2014, 2:19 pm

Well, after all the trouble to get the terrain.tdf mismatch fixed and my internet died on me in race 1, very frustrating!!

One thing that is becoming increasingly frustrating as well is getting to grips with driving in rFactor... so basically, how do I not suck so much? lol
Last night at Winton really showed up how much I'm struggling with slow corners especially as I was losing about 2 seconds on the middle sector alone on the fast guys. And it seems the more I try to improve the worse I get. Carrying mid corner speed and getting power down off the corner without losing it seem to be the biggest problems I'm having. Setup doesn't really seem to make a big difference, although I've noticed some setup cars very oversteery and with those I usually can't even turn into a corner without losing it. So, any tips would be greatly appreciated because at the moment I don't seem to be able to get anywhere on my own and it would be a heap more fun to be able to battle with someone for more than one or two corners than just lap around at the back trying to keep it on the track lol.  scratch

Bad luck with the Disco Jake, nothing worse  No

Jake, you've got to remember that your racing against people that have been running the game for years, I think I've been on it for the last 6 years ?

I thought I was pretty good until I got online  Laughing_about
I was a back runner for some time, I must admit, my wheel at the time was a piece of crapola.
I found a big gain going to a G25 wheel though  Porsche GT3 Round 10 - Winton 1539983491
I spent every single night for around 3-4 hours running in V8 Supercar servers and slowing found myself coming through the pack & eventually won my first championship  king

Best advise I can give is to run your own race and don't over drive the car.
Really concentrate on your throttle percentage out of corners, try not to brake into wheel spin and try not to lock brakes if possible (basically all foot work in general).

Also the GT3's at Winton is not a good example, I don't like the feel of the GT3's and at a very technical track Winton it makes it even harder.
Its taken a fair while to get my head around the GT3 mod  Porsche GT3 Round 10 - Winton 2009658629
And I still cant get off the line in them lol.

Probably the best thing to do is try everyone's setup up you can and pick which one suits you best and remember who gave it to you.
The fastest racers setup normally is uncontrollable even for me for some reason, its probably due to different steering wheel setups.
You will find allot of speed once you understand how the car setups work and be able to set your own car up.
I try do all my own sets, but I still don't know everything about certain settings.

Hang in there mate  Porsche GT3 Round 10 - Winton 222436572  you will get there.

Congrads to GroupCAction for the clean sweep last night, well done.

Cheers Corty. I'll certainly keep at it. I think probably the hardest thing is I'm so used to 'feeling' the car and knowing when the back end is going is hard for me to pick up. I find sometimes i'm under correcting and others i'm correcting when i don't need to. Is it possible to set the wheel up to help with the 'feel' of things? I'm also wondering whether mucking around drifting might help with some car control skills

Porsche GT3 Round 10 - Winton Empty Re: Porsche GT3 Round 10 - Winton

Hey Jake,
I have been racing twice as long as Corty (F1 Challenge and the GT mods) and still have bad days. Setup does go a long way, but so does a lot of practise. I have seen guys here on the server doing tons of laps practising for a race. Unfortunately I don't have the luxury to spend so much time on it.
When I first started I used to watch the fast guys to see what lines they would take, what gear they were using etc. I used to ask for various setups from people, try then and use the best bits from it. For example if I liked how the car turned in, but always stepped out, I would take note of the front suspension settings. Same with the rear. If you could put the power on early, but the front sledged, then I would take note of the rear suspension settings. I would then use this as a starting point.
Once you had a base setup that you are happy with, its then a matter of fine tuning it for each track.

There is information out there about setting up wheels etc, but I went with something I was comfortable with and went from there. I did reduce the degrees of rotation within the profile of the wheel, but that's it (Have a look at most race cars. They reduce the travel of the steering rack lock to lock, where as rally cars have more lock to lock, but less rotation on the steering wheel.

I did post up some setup info ages ago. I still use these to get a reasonable set up.

i usually try and develop setups and as you can see i do the odd k on the server. i tend to sort gearing out first and then continuously save test setups if i like the direction its going in. can always delete the shite setups later. all trial and error and the better you know the track the better you can go during the race.

Porsche GT3 Round 10 - Winton Empty Re: Porsche GT3 Round 10 - Winton

I still haven't got my head around the Porsches. I also haven't been able to spend enough time practicing to get decent setups of late.

Like Corty, I thought I was a reasonable peddler before I got online and then found I would get flogged by blokes who were very experienced. It's all laps mate. Spend some time trying extremes in setup.

In the Porsches I get the feeling that I am miles too soft on the sway bars, in fact I think Jason mentioned something on TS about maxing out sway bar settings and seeing what happens. In the GT3's I found the Lambo to be really ride height sensitive.

I reckon initially if you make it easy to drive then sharpen it up in different areas to make it quicker. Like Chris said, start with gearing, then save a heap of setups as you go, record what changes you made in each. Once you get a decent baseline, keep working from that each time.

Main thing, keep it on the road and stay consistent, speed will come after that.

Cheers guys, one of the best things so far I've found is that everyone is really helpful and the whole comraderie of the racing is great and while everyone is serious about their racing, the fun factor is never lost sight of. Looks like lots more laps for me in the near future  Wink 3gears
