Re: TCL 2.5 litre Trans Tasman Challenge
After last nights practise, there are a couple of things that need clarifying.
There are two versions of the BMW M3. A 2.3 litre and a 2.6 litre. Both will be availabe to use.
(I was quicker in the 2.3 litre or some reason). Gearbox configurations are free (5 speed or 6 speed). The 2.0 litre turbo Volvo will be allowed as well.
However - if there is one car that is dominant throughout the league I may consider adding weight.

Re: TCL 2.5 litre Trans Tasman Challenge
BMW M3 2.6 litre is an error on the part of the mod creators, there's no such thing.
Surely the Volvo will spank everything?

Re: TCL 2.5 litre Trans Tasman Challenge
I was going to mention this.
If you take into account the swept volume and use an equivalency factor of 1.7 for a turbo (this is pretty normal type of equivalency), a Volvo would be in the outright class, probably 4+ litres. Hence why they could keep up with a 5 Litre Commodore in the 1986 ETCC.
Same goes for a Starion Turbo, surely?
Even though they both handle like a bucket of wheat, they should spank any M3 or Merc.

Re: TCL 2.5 litre Trans Tasman Challenge
After last nights testing, my initial thoughts were to include the Volvo as a point of difference because in previous leagues, most people just go for the M3
The Alfa 75 turbo would also fall outside of the 2.5 litre ceiling, however the Merc and M3 are more competitive.
My aim in including the Volvo and Starion was to have a wider range of cars competing instead of 1 or 2.
I'm happy to exlcude the Volvo if there is enough resistance. The other option is to only allow a few back markers the choice of using the Volvo or not. I'm sure it would give David, Nutty (and Phil if he joins up) etc a better chance of being competitve...

Re: TCL 2.5 litre Trans Tasman Challenge
The mix of cars we have are pretty good.
The Volvo isn't as fast as everyone thinks, the M3 is one to beat most of the time.
I just did a test with the Volvo, M3, Merc, Alfa GTV6 & Alfa 75 Turbo and they are all pretty competitive.
The Volvo wasn't the quickest !
I also drove the Starion last night and it's probably one of the slowest.

Re: TCL 2.5 litre Trans Tasman Challenge
I'll go with the majority, Mozza (Volvo) was pretty close to me in the BMW at Hidden Valley.
On the tighter circuits I think the BMW would be better, but anything with a long straight/s will benefit the Volvo.
I guess my issue was one of historical significance, I don't think the Volvo's ever ran against the BMW M3's, certainly in factory form.

Re: TCL 2.5 litre Trans Tasman Challenge
Thinking about this today as I drive down country, I will exclude the Volvo. As mentioned my aim was to include a few more cars to choose from but I see I could have issues during the league with this.

Re: TCL 2.5 litre Trans Tasman Challenge
If its the speed of the Volvo, then like I said there's nothing to worry about !
If it was going to dominate on a track with straights, then Pukekohe would be a track that it does, but it doesn't. Again there are other cars that are quicker.
Another good test would be at Bathurst, where still I think the Volvo wouldn't be the quickest.
I say leave it in, but that's up to Growler.
I wasn't going to drive it anyway, so it don't effect me

Ok...I will leave it in but recommend the regular fast guys don't use it.
If it starts to run away I can give it a weight penalty.

It did some laps in the Merc with Berlsy in the Volvo.
There was nothing in it. I did post a faster laptime in the Merc...by .01 of a second!

Just a reminder before the league starts.
The car you start round one with must be the car you retain for the whole season. No exceptions!!!

the GTV6 is surprising. despite not having many gear adjustments or brake bias in car its good once the rear is settled and you learn to trail brake.

Re: TCL 2.5 litre Trans Tasman Challenge
I was hoping to race tonight but couldn't get everything downloaded in time. I will compete from next time, i will probably race a Mercedes
The Alfa 75 ran in the under 2500cc class in 1987.
1.8ltr engine multiplied by the 1982-1987 turbo equivalency factor of 1.4 keeps it under the 2500cc limit.
The turbo equivalency factory only went up to 1.7 in 1988, by which time Alfa had already pulled completely out of Group A racing worldwide, so it didn't affect the cars.

Hi, thinking of getting the wheel out and joining.
Do I install all four of the downloads listed under the "Sunday - Downloads" links on the left panel (1.0, 1.0 All Addons, 635 fix, ATCC skins)?

No. I uploaded the Taupo and Timaru tracks last night, I just need Corty to check that he has them.
Danman made Taupo from track plans is the more acurate version. This is the one we will be running
The same with Timaru...

I've put the Taupo track on the server (its all up & running) and the track is in the Tracks drop down on the left side of this site under "Taupo 2010".
Timaru I couldn't do as the rar file needs a password
