Pre amaroo
This week Wally26 will be showcasing one of the most important cars of it's era.
This car was known as the quickest of it's type in the world at one stage and along with Godzilla, it's dominance was a big part of the reason of the move to V8 Supercars in Australia. Even though it's not the brand Wally usually drives nowadays.... It is a very signifant car and deserves to be driven in his showcases..
Who can guess the car.

After running this car most of the series although I did pull the badges off Mine at the first round I would recommend 120lt if fuel even for Qual

Re: Pre amaroo
One of my fondest memories of that era was the sierras blitzing everything else up the mountain straight at bathurst.
Although I wasn't exactly a sierra fan or a johnson fan at the time. But in hindsight I've realised both were very cool parts of the racing scene at the time.

Same dano wasn't a fan of either but like you I do appreciate that time in our motorsport history and respect what dick especially achieved in these cars on a world wide level
Saying that My favorite memory of the Sierra's was watching dick cross the line first at Bathurst only to find that the race would be decided from two laps earlier.

Ahh yeah. I remember that well.
But I was always a fan of Jim Richards. Although I tended to agree with the sentiment of the fans at the track.
I had the privilege of viewing most of these cars up close when I was marshalling at pukekohe for the nissan mobil 500 rounds they had there.

As much as it pains me to say it he should have won that day everyone else went on to wets Jim kept going on slicks for one more lap and we all know what happened.
As much I hated that atcc became ford touring cars they were unbelievable car for there time and of course Nissan made the sierra look slow pretty quickly once they got it worked out

I'm not sure if my memory is blurring two years together but the year I saw godzilla at pukekohe was the year that the Schnitzer BMWs blew everything off the track in the 500.
I think godzilla had reliability issues. The Beamers lapped every other car on what is a horsepower track.

Hence, that I chose the M3 at lakeside after remembering longhurst giving it to the big guys there.

It was certainly an golden era of Motor Sports here even though at the time we might not of thought so with the dominance over our locally produced cars. This in the end saw a drop in spectators and people at the venues to a degree that it was realized something should be done and the birth of the V8 Supercars.
Now it has come full circle in my opinion and something needs to be done again.
At Oran Park I will be showcasing a car that won bathurst but didn't finish the race in first position. The driver will always be known as one of the best and with todays level of competition will probably ALWAYS be known as The King of the Mountain. It was always on the card that I would dedicate a race to this driver and the reason's I have chosen Oran Park instead of the final round at his domain is that Oran Park was his last full time drive in a V8 Supercar.
At Bathurst; Will be the car that everyone wouldn't of given a serious chance of winning. The Sierra's were nearing their peak in development and the GTR by this time was more sorted. Where HDT left and HSV took over. It's a win that shouldn't of happened on paper but due to bullet proof reliability and the talents of a certain Gold Coast soon to be Mayor, and a likable Pom,This car ran a great race and shocked the more fancied teams. The builder of this car has recently passed and so it is a chance for me to showcase probably one of his best acheivements as far as Holden's go.

Re: Pre amaroo
I fully don't mind if everyone wanted to swap cars to showcase their favourite drivers/cars in the last three rounds.. racer69, it might be nice to see the Greens Tuff mustang along the way.
Have fun with it guys because next season will be the Gallardo's and will be the last we see of TCL for a little while

Nissan ran the GTR in New Zealand for two years, 1990 and 1991. Both times Skaife and Richards were the drivers... they didn't win the Wellington 500 either time (Schnitzer M3's won it every year from '88 till '91, then Longhurst/Paul Morris won in an M3 in '92), but did win the 1991 Pukekohe 500.... not sure who won the 1990 Pukekohe 500 though.
The Nissan-Mobil series was a great bunch of races, i have a few of them on tape, and are always great watching (1985 Wellington in particular is a fabulous watch)

Cheers Wally, i might just do that... I've been running the 'reverse' Greens-Tuf one the last two rounds, the one used in practice for Bathurst in 1984.

Re: Pre amaroo
Well i'm home tonight, so looking forward to joining in. I'm going to run a car that i raced against at Phillip Island a couple of weeks ago. It beat me of course, the JPS M3.
I really like the M3, not just because of the awesome sound it makes, but I believe it is the only car in TCL that is both easy to drive and outright competitive.
