LUCKY 7 RACING's Tim Slade has posted the fastest time in this morning's first V8 Supercar practice session.

In wet conditions, Slade narrowly pipped Stone Brothers Racing teammate Shane van Gisbergen by 0.06 seconds.

Jim Beam Racing's James Moffat made a late charge into 3rd, ahead of Toll HRT's McConville/Courtney and JBR teammate Steve Johnson.

The session was interrupted by one red flag stoppage, for Toll HRT's Nick Percat who got stuck in the gravel trap at turn one.

The second V8 Supercar practice session begins at 12.55pm AEDT and is for co-drivers only.

Mark Skaife was 4th from Greg Ritter, who made a late charge into 5th.

The final V8 Supercar practice session starts at 3.05pm AEDT.

Toll Holden Racing Team's Cameron McConville has ended the co-driver's practice session on top- the only driver to dip into the sub 2 min 10-second bracket with a 2.09.8765 on his last lap.

McConville was half a second clear of TeamVodafone's Mark Skaife, with Steve Richards, Greg Ritter and Dale Wood rounding out the top five.

Many cars completed just a couple of early laps on wet tyres before electing to sit in pit lane and wait for the track to dry.

John McIntyre was the fastest car as a dry line started to emerge, with times tumbling over ten seconds from the start of the session.

Richards, Marshall and Thompson all swapped places at the top of the timesheets during the session.

The session was briefly red flagged for #16 Stratco Commodore that stopped on the side of the track.

Shane Price's #14 Jana Living Commodore also stopped on the front straight in the dying moments of the session.

The final practice starts at 11.00am AEDT, before Qualifying at 2.45pm AEDT.

PRACTICE 4- TOP TEN

1. McConville, 2. Skaife, 3. S. Richards, 4. Ritter, 5. Wood, 6. Thompson, 7. Marshall, 8. Percat, 9. Youlden, 10. Baird.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SP TOOLS Racing's Shane van Gisbergen has posted the fastest time in the final practice session ahead of this afternoon's Qualifying.

The flying Kiwi's quickest lap was his final of the session - a 2.07.6035. He narrowly edged out Jamie Whincup, who finished 2nd but then crashed into the wall at the cutting after the session had ended, requiring a tow truck back to the pits.

Mark Winterbottom made a late charge into 3rd, ahead of Garth Tander and Lee Holdsworth. The top five the only to break into the 2min 7 second bracket.

The 20-minute Qualifying for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 starts at 2.45pm AEDT.

The top ten will then compete in the Top Ten Shootout tomorrow.

Qualifying will be streamed live on v8supercars.com.au.

PRACTICE 5- TOP TEN

1. van Gisbergen, 2. Whincup, 3. Winterbottom, 4. Tander, 5. Holdsworth, 6. A. Davison, 7. Courtney, 8. W. Davison, 9. Caruso, 10. Owen.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

V8 Supercars Championship leader Jamie Whincup has taken full blame for a crash in Practice 5 at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 that may rule him out of qualifying this afternoon.

The TeamVodafone Commodore driver had clocked the second fastest time of the session to Kiwi Shane van Gisbergen before making a mistake and hitting the wall on the approach to the Cutting on his in lap after the chequered flag had been shown.

With damage to the right rear and right front, the #88 Holden was brought back to the pits on the back of a tilt tray truck.

“I was on a third lap run of good tyres and got a bit loose into the Cutting,” said Whincup.

“My error, basically.

“I hit the square but of the wall pretty hard and it’s done a bit of damage. It’s not looking good for qualifying.

“We’ve bent a major bar so I’m not even sure if we’ll get out. It’s less than a 50/50 chance. From my observation it’s 20/80.

“The boss (Roland Dane) isn’t a big fan of crashing after the chequered flag so he’ll have a word to me for sure.”
