Historic F1 fun night Empty Historic F1 fun night

Post by dano 6/7/2011, 2:11 pm

Hi folks.

I've asked if we can have an F1 fun night on a tuesday night between series'. It'll be between the BOZ Sprint Cars and what ever is after that.
We don't have a date yet.

We had a whole bunch of different mods mentioned when this came up the other night so I figured it would be a good idea to start some discussion on this and maybe vote on the best 5 or something like that.

Cars:

These are the mods I have and know about.

f1 71 ( Probably my favourite)
f1 79 (Have had previosuly and highly recommend)
f1 75 ( Have had previously )
f1 85 (Also highly recommend)
f1 91 Historic Edition (pure awesomeness)

Please list what you have f1 mod wise. I'm more than happy to download and try new mods.
If possible we should try to choose one which isn't a massive download so as not to put non f1 fans off the idea of joining us.

Tracks:

I reckon we should choose 2 tracks and have a 20 minute race at each.
I also reckon one should be a street circuit and the other a high speed circuit.
e.g Adelaide street circuit 88 and Spa

But these are just my suggestions.

Feel free to make suggestions.

Fantastic ideas Dano. Couldn't have put it better.

I have F1 79 and F1 85, but wouldn't mind trying others.

I've got '75, '79, '88 & '91. I like them all, but I find the later ones are harder to drive, not that that the early ones are in any way easy. Shocked

You want hard to drive? Try the 1983 Brabham-BMW BT52 mate

So much power it spins the wheels at full throttle up to about 200 km/h.

Awesome!

The 19th and 26th sounds good. That can only be July 19 and 26 I assume.

Milo I think we should go ahead as planned with the sprints, everyone seems at least as keen on those.

I agree with Dave Paterson, the earlier cars are easier to drive and also easier/less complicated to setup.

And like Shano said if we end up using 91 historic we should ban the willys maybe.

I think we're going to have to put it to a vote.
I'm wondering if you guys would be agreeable to doing one mod on the 19th and then a different one on the 26th.
e.g. an older one like 79 or 85 one week and a newer one like 91 or 92 the week after.
I think that way most of us would need to download a new mod but also most will get to race a mod that they are keen on.

The car that I cream myself on is the 85 lotus renault. oh oh oh!
The engine sounds are so awesome.
Also the renault turbo from the 79 mod rocks.

The series can be longer around 4 to 6 rounds we aim for on the tuesday nights. When I put the 19th I meant they are free from then, we are just starting planning so If you guys want to run a series after sprint cars are welcome to or if you just want a one or two night fun races to gauge interest welcome as well

If you guys confirm what you want to do date wise an we can book it in

I hadn't really considered a series because I thought there would be only limited interest. But I count about 7 people that have shown interest in this thread or on the server last night.
I'm keen on the idea of a proper series but worried about ending up with smallish grids at each race.
I might setup a poll later to see if we can gauge interest that way.

I clicked on the link in the poll thread and d/l FI 1985 last night. It's good, but hard to drive, as F1 should be! Are the sounds shit in 1985?

Just thought of another reason to use 1979, it has a full set of period correct tracks.

Are the sounds shit? The few other cars I've tried apart from the lotus don't sound great. But man the Lotus sounds amazingly awesome, especially when you back off the throttle. Yeah hard to drive but like any f1 mod it takes a bit of getting used to and being turbos the power comes on really strong as the revs go up, I generally have to short shift a bit in 2nd and 3rd gear.

But I'm a big fan of 79 too. I voted for 85 but I actually want 79 now.

I was planning on picking some of the 79 tracks either way. Kyalami is probably my favourite track of all time.
