Re: Car Selections
I better get this clear before thinking about a car....
Are we only using ATCC88 cars or Bathurst 88 as well?
Just asking as we're doing the full ATCC which would
mean both would end up being used.

The '88 ATCC & Bathurst, which the next season is based on, also allows the R31 Skylines and TWR Commodore's, which are all also much faster than the current RS Cosworth Sierra's & HDT Commodore's etc.. we are racing in the '87 WTCC. I don't think it'd be too unfair.
looks like its both Obbzy. But yeah, wait for confirmation.

oh, well, there you go. we all learnt something.
just a question though wally, do we all have to use a different car?
for example there are only 2 skylines in the ATCC'88 folder. does that mean only two people can use skylines in the season?
or can we double up on cars? or re-skin to make them different?

Re: Car Selections
How are you gonna re-skin 'em? Cos if you do, you'll have to install the extra cars on the server, yeh? Otherwise if (for example) shayn skins the No. 15 31 in R31house style, and I want to run the standard no. 15 skin..... how do you work it, without installing the extra cars?
Is that confusing, or am I making sense?

Re: Car Selections
damn it. foiled by Mozza again.
i didnt think of that.
so that means there are only two options.
*double up on people using some cars. if it occurs. (im pretty certain more than 2 people will pick a skyline for instance.)
*we use only the cars available and if someone has picked the car you want to run, then tough luck, pick something else?
(sub option. how hard is it to install new cars on the server?)

Re: Car Selections
The doubling up of cars personally doesn't overly bother me.
No double ups also doesn't bother me, and is most likely the easiest way to do it. There are plenty of alternatives if someone picks the car you had your eye on first.
We could do a skin pack with some extra cars so everyone had seperate cars, but i'd rather they were kept 'real' liveries from the time rather than fantasy skins. Seeing as we're doing the proper schedule, we should use the proper cars
eg.. say a #60 Peter Jackson Skyline, or a #14 Netcomm Skyline (Murray Carter raced an earlier model Skyline DR30 in the 1988 ATCC), or some extra M3's as they'd be popular, like the #52 Schnitzer M3 from Wellington '88. Even the #75 John Cotter Alfa Romeo 75 that ran in the '88 ATCC but wasn't included in the '88 season of the game. (I've got a bunch, including those above, of real extra skins that i've done for my offline install of TCL to pad out the seasons)
The only thing is of course its an extra thing to download, or something extra that could go wrong.
Very excited for next season though, should be a great season and love how we're following the whole calendar with the period cars (ie..ATCC cars for ATCC, Bathurst cars for Bathurst etc..)

Re: Car Selections
Throwing in my 2cents worth... I think open the championship to both ATCC88 and Bathurst cars... There are more Sierra's, BMW's & Commodore's in the Bathurst folder... With more cars to choose from it means we don't have to create skins etc. which could cause dramas with CTD's
As an ode/tribute to the late Walkinshaw i reckon it'd be good to have some of his cars running all season long and not just at Bathurst

Re: Car Selections
Doesnt help with the skyline though, as the versions for bathurst and atcc are the same car.
Im not saying im gonna pick the skyline, or that more than 2 people will wanna use it, just using it as an example.
The most likely outcome looks like double up on one or two cars, which is no big deal, it just means you will be driving the same car as someone else.
I personally dont like that idea, but it might be the easiest way.
I love driving the MarlboroM3 around this season, knowing it is my car, and thats how people identify that its me.
Maybe its a little picky. I dunno. Im sure its not.

i dont see why we cant include bathurst, im wanting a skyline, but as there are only 2 skylines and i find it anooying when people use the same cars. ( i know how close i can get to them , eg i can get mm away from billybob as ive been racing with him online for years)
maybe adding the misc 88 cars for more skins?

I reckon first in best dressed! If you're so serious about the driving pixels around an imaginary track, projected onto a monitor, then you should be a financial member so you can have first dibs
No repeating of skins or anything. It's all good. Personally, I've no idea what I'm gonna run yet. And I'll probably wait to see what's being used the least, just to add some more variety. But hey, that's how I roll!

No repeating of skins or anything.
I think this is probably the best way to go, and also the less problematic (no messing round with getting new skins in the game etc..)
But no matter the decision by Wally, i'll be on the grid no question

i didnt become a financial member to be best dressed
i know what its like to be the one to put in the work and money in with bugger all help from others i built up and run a off road rc car club mega cubes of clay trucks diggers irrigation etc, so now im here im keen to help out
i think this is just as good a sport as running around a wet cold padock chassing a leather rugby ball, lawn bowls etc
when i raced speedway sidechairs some would of thought that was nothing to get serious about as well just riding around in circles ?

Re: Car Selections
Ok now im really sorry i said something.
This is getting out of hand, which i didnt mean for.
I think now just leave it as it is. choose a car from what is available when your turn comes.
This will ensure a spread field hopefully, and even if you dont get the car you want, so be it. Theres plenty of cars to choose from.
Kris, i think what Mozza meant was, if a person is so desperate to get a specific car, maybe they should realise its just a bit of fun competition. And there are plenty of ways to compete. and have a good time.
So yeah, the admins that decide, will come up with the best solution, and what ever that is, im sure we will all still be here to race anyways.
sorry to have confused things.

Re: Car Selections
Just clicked on the FAQ to find out how to become a financial member and there's nothing there............
I really look forward to Sunday night and would like to see it continue.
I might as well offer an opinion, everyone else has. I'm a little OCD when it comes to realism in racing sims, so I definately vote for no fantasy skins or skins from other series'.
When deciding what cars to include in the series, the biggest issue is that TWR Commodores raced in the '88 Bathurst 1000, but they didn't race in the '88 ATCC.
My car appears in both sets, so i'm sorted.

I've painted a shedload of TCL missing skins from '85 to '90 and also a few from '84 & '91 to '93. I'm more than happy to share them, some of them are very good, some are very ordinary.
If you have genuine (not fantasy or modern) TCL skins you'd like to share, please do.

hey dont worry kriss its mozzas fault he usets everyone .........he doesnt even need to open his mouth and he upsets me (JOKE b4 everyone gets on one lol )
on a serious note if we can all run our car choices without conflict great.......otherwise i agree the fairest option would be financial/admins first, talking of which how do u contribute as id like to put a few dollars in the pot at some point

hmmmmmm realism or having fun......
ok here we go, cry if you disagree or bribes of cash or money orders are accepted.....
ok we are here to have fun first.... this has always been my poilicy and i think Benny's as well even way back to our nights in xgn.
This being so, I think we will allow both atcc88 and 88bathurst cars throughout the whole season.
Doubling up (due to us just wanting to have fun) will be allowed but............
just for appearance sakes let's stick to car selections with the admin/financial members get first choice up to next monday.
There is a issue of server numbers here and I will be deciding soon whether or not and how far we will go in increasing slots to our server..
now what this thread is really for:---------
Wally26 - #26 Bathurst88 Strathfield Commodore

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. decisions, decisions!!!!
Adding the Bathurst cars certainly gives everyone more choice (I was thinking
the John Faulkner Toyota Sprinter was gonna be it for me!!!!! )
I better go and find a car that no-one will want to drive and one that
hopefully no-one will pick! That way I should get something with a backup plan. lol
Big announcements Monday.
Cheers

woo this is getting exciting. gonna be weird seeing all of you in different cars. (lol wait, thats happening already). IM KIDDING!
Fast drivers in fast cars, this is a little worrying though.
I really wanna pick an M3, cos i love it, and i dont think im good enough in that yet, to warrant getting more power. Gotta crawl before you walk.

All this 1988 talk has led me to dig out the video's and have a re-watch of the 1988 season
Watched Calder & Symmons Plains over the course of the past two days, great stuff (the production car support race at Calder features one car so obviously fudging the rules engine wise its laughable.....).. will get onto Winton tomorrow or Thursday

Re: Car Selections
Hey Guys For this new series you must be registered on our SLS Simracing Results Software which is available at http://www.ttrracing.com/sls/php/ or the link at the top of the page.
You must register your vehicle for each series we run to get points in the series
Same rule with Monday is the earliest to register you vehicle and I'm guessing tonight we are going to have a lot of Aussies currently in NZ being that they are two hours ahead
Please post your selections and check others at the time here and on SLS software.
Something I haven't run past wally but thought I'd float the idea. The new software Caters for Teams, how about Top 8 finishes from the current series pick someone from the bottom 8 for a teams championship as well

Re: Car Selections
In terms of teams, I was thinking something like if 2 cars from the same team are picked, then those 2 become team mates... For example, if 2 people pick the 2 DJR ATCC Sierras, then they become team mates, and that team name is (obviously?) DJR... Same with the BMWs... There is 3 Mobil M3, so if 3 people pick them, then those 3 are team mates in Team Mobil... etc etc...
No good?
No good?

I am very pleased to announce that I will be driving for the Mobil 1 BMW team, driving car number 7.
Going to be a big challenge going up against the Sierras, Commodores & Skyline's but if I can be battling for consistent podiums I'll be stoked!!

OK then... a change of pace i think.
My car choice is the #14 Carter / Masterton Nettcom Sierra.. purely for the skin.
This is a Bathurst car so if it is not possible to use this car i'll go with the #3 Loghurst Freeport Sierra
Cheers
My car choice is the #14 Carter / Masterton Nettcom Sierra.. purely for the skin.

Re: Car Selections
Hey Wally
Myself, can I pinch the #35 ATCC Merc.
Having a few convo's with Wobbly and Shaynskyline last night, they asked me if I could reserve them the remaining Mercs too...
#34 ATCC Merc for WobblyOne
and
#51 Bathurst Merc for Shaynskyline
M3 ship jumpers - Must be something to do with the guy who's leading the Group 2's this season in a Merc!!
Watch the Merc's next season!!
