What a bloody awful track! Can I swap my Beemer for a go kart?
Best lap 1:43, i've never seen so many 2nd gear corners on one track, it's even worse than the one in the picture above.

Re: pre nurburg rants
I dunno who said this track would be better than Dijon for the commos, but they were dreaming. Another track built for the Sierras unfortunately. I was hoping it would be the Nordschleife!
Commo creaks around the corners and can't open the taps, 1:36.8 so far.

Is there a particular reason we're using the short version?
the bit that's cut out is one of the best parts of the track.

Are you sure? Where did you get that info?
I can't find any specific info except for what Milo posted in a previous thread.
According to Milo's info below the track distance was 4.542 m ( I assume that must be km as metres is very short and miles is too long.
The info from RFC says the long version is 5.148 km and sprint is 3.629 km
The 5.148 includes the new section at the start built in early 2000's
Also "Fastest lap: Ludwig in 1.48,59 " is much slower than 1:36.8 posted by Webber.
This makes me think it should be the longer version. ( Although I think that will mean using the wrong final chicane and the new section as well )
But I don't know where either of you got your info from.

Re: pre nurburg rants
This week we are using the shorter version... people have been practising three days now and I am not going to change it after all that effort on setups etc.
Niether lengths are correct so i selected the shorter version

Re: pre nurburg rants
I had 3 races last night With another league here in the unleashed mod (allthough the longer version I think my best time was 1:59.5). At first didn't like the track but I did jump in 5 min before qual without any practice. By the end of the first race come to grips with it and found it quite enjoyable.
I know completely different cars and grip levels but found had to drive the car very similar to Winton I even used a modified version of winton setup. Any form of pushing hard found times weren't anywhere near as quick. Destroyed the tyres with two laps at first and by the second race got though a 20min stint without touching them.

This has the specifications you need.
Track modified in 2002.
See pictures
What you need is to change to the long track, but get rid of the twisty bit after turn 1.
The NGK-Schikane has changed, but nothing can be don eabout that.

Sorry Wally I hadn't thought about the fact that people will have practised already.
I don't think there'll be too many complaints though.
Agreed neither is going to be historically accurate but personally I think the long version is better because it includes more of the original layout.

Ok Guys Reading the above is getting a little confusing.
I want to make sure that no one is practicing the wrong track so lets make sure we all on the same page with which Track.
So Firstly who is happy with the current short track and who wants it switched to the longer version.
Personlly Im not fussed It doesn't effect my standing in the championship and haven't practiced either tracks enough to worry about it.
But if it going to change we need to decided today so all members have a chance to prepare properly and we have time to inform everyone
Regards
Benny

Not really bothered. Already practiced on short track, but I'd probably prefer the longer version as it is more Historically correct
(it would also suit the VK better than the twisty short track)

Re: pre nurburg rants
hm, i really dont mind what version we use. ive been doing the short version since sunday night. iknow the track fairly well in any form from GT5.
makes no difference, the higher powered cars are going to win anyways. so i dont care what version it is.
commos and sierras will ease it in, regardless of tyre wear and or grip, or wateva. so yeah.
up to the powers i guess.
my realistic goals are to make up a position or two, or at very least finish where i qualify. the length of the track isnt going to affect this.

Above I entered the converstion as admin to try and make sure this didnt become a problem. I have since realized my comments re it doesnt effect me is more a personal thing which I wasnt entering the conversation for. As admin I believe at this stage we should stay on the version we are on.
I will make sure there is a post with all the future tracks will be laid out in advance so if anyone has a different choice it can be brought up in advanced and discussed

This !!!!
I'm not bothered either way really.
Without thinking about the fact that people have been practising etc I thought it was worth questioning because I was missing the bits GroupC mentioned.

Hey Guys Please Everyone Note the Server is up with the Long Track now. I
have used the Tuesday race server as I don't have access to Wallys
server to change it. Wally is having a week off but I will ask him to
turn his off with the short track to try take away the confusion.
If I can ask a if anyone see members on the short track until it gets turned off can they please jump on and let them know to use the one labeled European Gran Prix not Sprint Showndown
The Track I believe is standard as part of rfactor so you shouldn't need
to download anything. If you don't you can get it from here http://www.fileserve.com/file/WESexrQ/Nuerburg_Install.rar

Under the track poster in pre nurburg rants is a link...
copy and paste it the adress bar and delete the adfly stuff until you get to the fileserve address.
Some people that are running rfactor Lite will not have this track.. If you have a full rfactor then you will allready have it.

Re: pre nurburg rants
Hey all,
I'm back from my few weeks away at the Indy 500, and am looking forward to re-entering the series this weekend at Nurburgring
Looks like the series has been kicking along in my absence with some great fields and good racing, hopefully i can screw enough speed out of the Supra to be up with the leaders.
As mentioned elsewhere neither current edition of the Nurburgring is right. The longer track is most accurate, however the short version would give the little cars more of a chance. Will be getting into some practice hopefully once i sort my newly deliviered computer out
Wally - you shouldn't have to have a week off for the sake of a closer pointscore, i don't think that is a turn-off for potential competitors or anything, you are driving very well and should be able to run every week
PS... All i can say about Indy is WOW, and it is really an eye-opening experience, do yourself a favour and get over there if you have any inkling of interest in it, it is totally worth it. The history and tradition of the place really makes me wish that the organsiers of Bathurst these days weren't V8Supercars Australia who are slowly killing its traditions and the race as an event as a whole (just turning it into another championship round), the Indycar people really do appreciate what they have.

Hey Racer Glad you had a great time at indy Would love to go to something like that one day if you didn't have to sit on a plane for so long. My brother did daytona a few years ago said it was outstanding as well.
I got to watch the lead up on Foxtel they look like they put on a great show.
How was the Crowds looks like the squeeze a few in the joint.

Ugh. Just been told that I'm required to be elsewhere on Sunday, so I'm not sure I can make my first round this time out, maybe at the next one. We'll see, hope and pray!
The longer track certainly takes it's toll on the Group 2 cars, the Group 1's are able to drive away from us now with more straights involved. On the shorter one, I reckon we could just about keep up...
Just in case I can make the event, here's something I've slowly been working on today... Just can't get the red quite right, rFactor just doesn't wanna play ball in that department, yet.

He was on last night. Was driving the absolute wheels off the M3, it was fantastic. I was having a duel with him, me in the commodore, and he was very competitive.
All about mid corner speed.
My best in the Commo is a 2:11.1, and then I jumped in a Sierra last night and first timed lap was a 2:10.1...

Re: pre nurburg rants
hi guys that was me in the m3 to be fair tho i know this track well from race07 and the beemer seems really suited here, like u say with very good brakes and mid corner speed, also the 12.3 wasnt a true reflection really my best without a tow is a mid 13 i think, i only got that time trying to stay with mr damage in the rs500 and he towed me down the straights and i was driving my nuts off to stay with him on that lap which accounts for the time, but it was on race setup and 10 laps of fuel i think. i tried the rs500 as well cos im new at rfactor and that drove like it had a hinge in the middle so u guys are brave in those lol never realised u can watch laps on server....how do u do that then?
looking forward to racing with you all sunday, im not up to speed on tyre wear setups yet so not sure how long the car will last doing those sorts of times b4 it goes off.
cheers wobb
